This is ridiculous. The supreme court of pakistan doesn`t have the balls to enforce the original constitution , but it does have the balls to interfere with the social functions of individual pakistanis. And you hold this up as an example. You are indeed a disgrace to your nation.

The World Bank has rated India as the best among South Asian nations in improving investment climate. India Ranked No. 6 on World Travel Map

Conde Nast Traveller, a travel publication, ranked India as sixth among the top-ten destinations in its annual readers` traveler awards. India earned the points for its cultural diversity, hospitality and for being ``value for money``. Nearly 3 million tourists visited India in the year ending March 03, reflecting a jump of 18.5 % over the previous year.

Investors Optimistic On Indian Market

Global investors appear to be ``most optimistic`` on Indian market after domestic companies showed consistent long term improvement in profits since 1988, according to a survey by global merchant banking major Credit Suisse First Boston.

Investors are optimistic on IT consulting and services, semi-conductor equipment and software services sectors but are pessimistic on electronic manufacturing services, computer storage and peripherals industry, said CSFB. The CSFB HOLT, investment guide monitors and carries out valuation of 16,000 companies globally including over 6,500 Asian companies.

India on Verge of Huge Growth as per New York Stock Exchange Chief

India stands on the threshold of tremendous growth and influence as an economic power in the global community, according to the chief of the New York Stock Exchange.

India`s economic reforms favoring free markets, development of infrastructure, prudent spending and commitment to education has made India`s position stronger in the global leadership. Seven Indian companies are already listed on the stock exchange and the combined average daily trading volume of Indian stocks on NYSE this year has been over 2million shares a day.

6.4 Million New Phones from April-July 2004

Boosted by a major contribution from the private mobile telephony sector, India`s tele-density touched 7.67% with the addition of over 6.4million telephones in the April-July period, taking the total number of phones to 82.9 million. Private sector has played a major role by providing almost 85% of the expansion during these four months.

Move Over IT, Biotech`s got its own Parks Too

The Foreign Trade Policy 2004-2009 makes room for setting up of biotechnology parks across the country.

The sector is expected to generate $5 billion in revenues and create over one million jobs in the next five years, according to the Global Biotechnology Report. The policy decision based on a Department of Biotechnology (DBT) recommendation envisages all facilities available to 100% EOUs to be extended to biotech companies located in these parks.

Gradually the SOPs will be fashioned in such manner as to bring Biotechnology on par with IT. Companies which are setting up wholly-owned subsidiaries—especially in the Pharma R&D space, following the incentives announced in the Budget—will hence benefit from this policy while procuring raw material, machinery and so on.

Power Major`s Head for India

International power companies are again making a beeline for India. But the focus this time is on transmission and not generation.

In the last few months, a large number of European and Asian companies have written to the Power Grid Corporation of India enquiring about developments in the India. The list of power majors includes Spain`s Isolex Wat, South Korea`s Askone, Germany`s RTE, France`s EDF, and China Light. Some Russian and Malaysian companies have also shown interest.

Fuelling Growth: India`s Grey Revolution

A Grey Revolution is gathering momentum in India, with the largest highways construction program, power plants, housing sector and a boom in the entertainment and shopping space

Capital formation in public sector projects has grown sharply by 7.2% between the years 2002 and 2003 - an encouraging trend since such projects are the lifeline for job creation in a country like India.

Approximately $15 billion was spent by the Central Government, on construction of Power Plants, according to an estimate by the Indian Building Association, during the last 5 years

India`s 4-lane highway program (known as the Golden Quadrilateral project) connecting the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, an average of 40 persons are engaged per day per kilometer of road length, creating 73 million man-days in a year.

The housing sector is set to grow at an annual rate of 50% in the next four years, with the ministry of urban development estimating India`s housing requirement at more than 22 million houses.

Construction of multistoried shopping malls across all major cities is estimated at approximately 25 million square feet of organized retail space by 2005.

What`s the fuss all baout?.Another movie , fer crissakes!.I saw a clip on `Trend Mill` a CNBC/India show on CNBC World and wasn`t impressed.I am sick and tired of the refugees and their progeny, who were given asylum in India in 1947, out of the kindness of native born indians , abuse this kindness by continuing to have contact with a treacherous people and state such as pakistan , whose very existence is sustained by the idea of either obtaining parity, besting India or the very destruction of the indian nation. It is time native born indians kick out these treacherous refuse and their progeny and make them stateless, thereby , hopefully, making them see the light and be ever grateful to the millions of indians in 35 states who opened their hearts and homes to provide these traitors with a chance to live in a free, democratic society as equals.Any right thinking indian would have built a strong wall all along the indo-pak border and not have any contact with that treacherous state. Most of these refugees congregated in the capital territory of delhi and have penetrated govt. and other decision making bodies. Sad.Hopefully, there will be one native born indian one day who will say . ``Enough is enough``.I pray.

On a lighter note, i recd. a CD of a new indian singer by the name of `Rabbi Shergill`, no pakland refugee here, and his voice is absolutely superb.Based on the words of some sufi saint, the music is haunting and a must hear. For those who can understand the words, even better. The man is great with the guitar.A must hear.

India Fund View: Prudential Favors India Despite Gains
Of Dow Jones Newswires

(This story originally ran at 1035 GMT Wednesday.)

MUMBAI (Dow Jones)--India`s equity market remains one of the best bets in Asia even as it continues to surge to new highs, underpinned by robust economic growth, strong corporate earnings and attractive share price valuations, said a fund manager at Prudential Corp. Asia.
``Attractive corporate earnings...make India one of the most attractive markets in the Asian region,`` said Ajay Srinivasan, the company`s managing director, fund management, who is based in Hong Kong.
Prudential Corp. Asia, which is part of U.K.-based Prudential PLC (PUK), has $36 billion invested in Asia. The group manages assets totaling about $300 billion globally.
``You have seen investment demand propel (corporate) earnings in many sectors. In the next stage, you are going to see consumption demand doing so,`` Srinivasan said.
Consumption will grow steadily, amid a backdrop of rising disposable incomes among India`s 250 million-plus middle-class population that`s benefiting from the outsourcing boom.
India`s corporate earnings will likely grow a brisk 13.4% in 2005, compared with 11.7% for Thailand and 5.4% for China, he said, based on Morgan Stanley`s estimates.
Furthermore, India`s share price valuations are still attractive despite the recent gains, Srinivasan said.
``India`s valuations on a P/E (price-to-earnings) basis are also not very expensive from a regional perspective,`` he noted. ``India`s valuations are more or less in line with other emerging Asian markets,`` he said, with the added allure of ``strong corporate earnings and attractive return on equity.``
India is trading at a forward P/E of 11.3 times, versus 11.7 for China and 11.4 for Taiwan, according to Morgan Stanley. In addition, return on equity for India is estimated at 21%, compared with 14.2% for Malaysia and 14.8% for China.
``There are companies in India that are globally competitive and are also available at reasonable valuations,`` said Srinivasan, pointing out as examples auto component makers, technology-service companies and drug makers.
The Bombay Stock Exchange`s 30-share Sensitive Index, or Sensex, hit a new all-time intraday high of 6272.68 points earlier Wednesday. The index ended the day at 6227.83 points.
While the Sensex has risen just 6.6% for the year to date, it has climbed 47% from an intraday year-low of 4227.50 on May 17, when panicky investors rushed to sell after the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance assumed power with the help of anti-reform leftist parties.
Investor confidence has improved since, as the Indian government continues its commitment to economic reforms, albeit in a measured manner. For instance, it has proposed raising the ceiling for foreign direct investment in telecommunications to 74% from 49%, and in insurance to 49% from 26%.
India`s equity market continues to attract foreign funds. Overseas portfolio investors` net stock purchases amount to $7 billion so far in 2004 - surpassing the previous-best level of $6.59 billion for the whole of 2003.
``From a point of view of absolute numbers and history, the index (Sensex) above 6000 looks high, but the fundamental outlook has also improved in many cases,`` said Srinivasan.
International fund managers in the latest monthly Dow Jones Newswires survey identified India as a promising equity market within an Asia-Pacific portfolio, noting the attractive share price valuations and robust economic growth, despite a fairly disappointing monsoon season this year.
India`s growth isn`t yet fully recognized and that leaves more room for the stock market to grow, said the fund managers, who recommended a slight overweight in Indian shares in the November survery, from a slight underweight in October.
The government expects India`s economy to grow around 6% this year, and between 7%-8% in 2005.

................Nothing that you have said is based on fact.Only hatred and assumption. How long will you continue to harp oin Gujarat?.The people of Gujarat have moved on.Muslims constitute 40% of that state`s population. They didn`t move en masse to pakistan in 1947.They are gujaratis first and everything else after. And, i think the muslims got back at the hindus by raiding a temple and killing quite a few of them there.Anyways, I ain`t from gujarat and it is for them to decide their own destiny. There are 35 states (each like a separate country with borders, language, culture and govt.) and gujarat is only one of them.Only president Abdul Kalam can dismiss the state govt..The PM can only recommend. So, if there`s nothin` agin Modi , he has the right to continue as CM of Gujarat. As far as the military, India can stand up to the Chinese. That`s why India and China are amicably resolving all border issues.Last week there was a `Made in India` trade expo in Beijing...everything from fashion to automobiles.Indian autos will be plying the streets of Beijing next year onwards.Licences have been issued to two indian auto majors.

The India-ASEAN FTA/the China-ASEAN FTA has opened the way for more trade in the whole region of North/South east Asia, away from your pox ridden area of the world. At the recently concluded ASEAN summit the chinese and indian premiers were invited at the same time to sign the pacts. If China was so superior then why did they bother with india?.Even the Australian PM was only invited as an observer. All ASEAN leaders , including the chinese premier were present to receive the INDO-ASEAN car rally from Guwahati, Assam state to Bataan in Indonesia, showcasing indian automotive technology.Even CCTV carried the event live.I saw it in nyc.Where is pakistan??.HAHA.Nowhere.

Enough of all this partition madness.Enough of trying to make friends with the paksitanis as a country.Enough of their perverse fascination with again , the partition, india, islam/religion and other morbid pursuits.Let those in india try to make the best of what they got and deal with it.I would scrap this whole CBM tamasha with pak and build a fence all along the border and do a food-for-work program and recruit people to man this fence , without straining the army 24/7.The only way to peace is to honor the partition and keep the fence. Those pak punjabi hindus who rue the partition can move back to pakistan , if they`re so friggin nostalgic about the old days.Frig` em.

.................I cannot thank Dr.Manmohan Singh for standing up to the bullies and keeping it where it is.Thanks to the current dynamics of indian politics the voice of reason from the south is a factor in preventing north indian politicians from giving away too much either for sentimental reasons or for personal aggrandisement( ala Vajpayee) as far as pakistan is concerned. There is no fear of nuclear holocaust and Singh has called the bluff quite well.Pakistan should learn form Mexico(loss of texas ,New mexico, California) and accept the loss of the valley with good grace.India is bigger and stronger and pakistan cannot hope to compete.Pakistan can better its` quality of life but not vis-a-vis India.I hear a lot from pakistan about textile exports rising to $20 billion after the WTO free for all next year but according to TIME magazine pakistan is going to lose even the miniscule textile exports it enjoys now and India`s textile exports is going to go up from 4% of the US market to 15% next year. And, India is the 10th largest textile exporting nation in the world right now.Why am i telling you all this??.I have no clue.Yeah, i think you`re really a double-dick, a self defeating indian or in other words a typical treacherous north indian.Lack of self esteem is what it is.You people will sell out India , why even your mothers for a buck.Isn`t it the truth that India`s economic progress began under a south indian prime minister, Narasimha Rao.Isn`t it true that Abdul kalam prevented Sonia from becoming PM and paved the way for Singh , thereby cementing india`s destiny into the future?.Sorry!!.Nothing personal. But, i gotta say it like it is.Not worth appeasing the pakistanis. The more you give the more they will want.Kalam and Singh have got it right.Leave it be.

Enough of this morbid fascination with the baser qualities exhibited by the peoples of our region during trying times in their lives. It is a pity that the people of pakistan do not have the courage to take back power from the military and the mullahs.Remember Tianmen square???.Look at China now.Look at the average indian. He can bring down the mighty with one vote. What we need is for Bollywood to invade pakistan. One look at Mallika Sherawat`s breasts in the movie `Murder` and the hot mouth-to-mouth kissing scene between her and Emraan Hashmi will send scores of pakistanis to the streets demanding the banishment of the mullahs and the military and more freedom in their lives. The problem is that most of the movies from pakistan are docu-dramas dwelling on the past. The majority of indians didn`t experience the partition and are unable to connect with such movie genre. The pakistanis have to reach beyond the punjab/delhi belt if they really want to connect with India.Otherwise, things will continue as is.

The ``behen jee`` brigade striketh again........Always trying to `control`........deprive men of their toys.......police social behaviour.......create elitism through causal manipulation.......hold politicians at ransom (applies only to democracies).......trying to suppress the rights of men........use sexuality as a weapon of convenience........devious interpretation of equal rights laws.......anti-development......No wonder so many ``ordinary`` women vote conservative today.

Another indication of the futility of comparing india with pakistan. One year production of one indian made model, the Hyundai Santro Xing , is more than the entire CKD assembly output of pakistan. Why even bother comparing??.

Power shift: Santro India`s car No. 1
NANDINI SEN GUPTA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 08, 2004 01:47:08 AM]
NEW DELHI: November has driven in a change of guard in Motown. For the first time in more than two decades, a non-Maruti model is on top of the heap . Hyundai India’s flagship model Santro, with a November tally of 12,055 units in domestic sales, is the largest selling car model in the country, upstaging Maruti’s best-selling Alto.

Trailing behind Santro are Alto at 9,156 units, the M800 at 8,958 units and Tata Motors’ Indica at 7,580 units. Two more Maruti models — WagonR at 7,070 units and Zen at 6,707 units — bring up the rest of the best-selling list.

In the C-segment , the top-seller is Honda City with a November tally of 2,914 units, while the Indigo family sold 2,868 units. Maruti’s new Esteem hit back with 2,725 units.

The Ford Ikon clocked 1,841 units in domestic sales and 1,053 units in exports.

Hyundai’s total 23,000-odd tally, including exports for November, is its highest sales ever.

Of this, the Santro’s contribution is 18,257 units, including exports of 6,202 units. The Santro’s race to the top was helped by HMIL’s Diwali subvention, which offered the B-segment car for Rs 3 lakh for a specified number of days. Arch-rival Maruti also answered with a similar scheme on the Zen and WagonR.

Speaking to ET, HMIL president BVR Subbu said: “The Diwali scheme got us 27,000 unit bookings, but we will supply the bulk now and the rest through January and may be even February. We will end the calendar with a production of 1,01,000 units for the domestic market and 60,000 units for the export market. We have already done 97,000 units for the domestic market, so we will do another 4,000 units.”

Despite its prominence in the B-segment market since its launch, the Santro has never managed to corner the top slot in overall car sales before.
