The story is about a man who likes to stare at the sun for long durations of time (how he does it is beyond common logic). He has a friend who has a camera. He also has a bottle of water by his side from which he drinks water from time to time. He once saw another man try to save the sun (how he thought he would do it is also beyond common logic), and was saved by this man and the lifeguard on duty.

How the hell did you guys figure out all those things from this story when all it said was this?!?
Maybe I need to read more books...

Well written and thought out! However, i see a huge dirth of full stops. Instead, there has been a gracious use of commas where the full stops should have been. :) Some emphasis should have ben given to common grammatical sense. Instead of the frequent commas , short sentences should have been used.

Never the less, very well written !

Nida
It seems that the character is looking at sun everday, and losses his sight at the end. It perhaps symbolizes those people who sacrifices their lives for their love, beliefs, convictions or human cause. To them , the purpose is more important than their own slf.
Or it could be a sufi prtice that cnnot be decribed in logical manners. The character is trying to see the unseen world. On another thought, he may be doing so for no purpose.
Anyway, how are lahore ki galian? Lahore apna shahr hai.

Regards.

i wonder if the chowk editors have investigated and determined whether this is indeed a translation, before putting it up here? some sort of attribution would be necessary if it was.

of course no offence to ms. qureshi`s skills as a writer.

This piece, with its long sentences, reads more like a translation. Perhaps that`s what is reminiscent of the Stranger.
Staring at the sun is a very bad idea. You`ll likely acquire dark patches in your vision, losing it entirely past middle age.

Reminiscent of Albert Camus and Nana Pategar (Indian Actor). I think the line about the crazy man running into the ocean to try and save the sun was exactly what Pategar did in his film Wajood. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen it but it was very similar. You should read The Stranger by existentialist Albert Camus, your writing is very similar to his in the way you present the senses as over bearing. In fact there is one section in The Stranger that discusses the destructive nature of Nature on humans by demonstrating what you “experienced” in your struggle with the sun. It had a much more meaningful ending. I didn’t like the ending it was too happy J However, I did like the imagery and the sensation of emotion presented in this piece. Great Piece!
