Hamid mian,

{.. please remind me what you told me many moons ago? } Aw, shucks, you don't remember those highly intellectual conversations now!

I commented that the falling value of USD is actually to get hold of some Chinese foreign reserves, which is estimated to be around USD 1.8Trillion. As you know China does not want it's Yuan to be appreciated against USD. Therefore, the US has no other choice but to embark on this financial war with China.

BTW, today DJIA is down about 7% due to the real estate meltdown. Why should we not pressure China to buy some of our toxic mortgages? We have been buying their toxic products for a long time, it just seems fair that China is forced to dip into our toxic real estate.

Here are some of links that suggest some similar thought regarding US losing it's financial zenith.

Asia Needs Deal to Prevent Panic Selling of U.S. Debt, Yu Says
By Kevin Hamlin

The U.S. financial crisis had taught China a lesson and that was: ``Why are we piling up these IOUs if they may default?'' China's economic expansion strategy, which emphasizes export growth that has led to trade surpluses and the accumulation of $1.81 trillion in foreign-exchange reserves, is the main problem, said Yu.

``Our export-growth strategy has run its natural course,'' he said. ``We should change course.''

Alam,

Do you not find it patronizing and ultimately insulting that a politician appoints an outreach person during the time of elections? You know its all about the votes, right? There is no concern of Muslims that Obama intends to run with that would override any broader policy decisions that are dearer to Obama, right? Now if you understand that then understand that removing a person of 'dubious' reputation is just.. politics as usual. Nothing personal. Obama probably, as is McCain, is a decent guy with the usual depth in differentiating tax-paying Muslims from terrorist Muslims.

This is what is meant by 'whining'. You are playing politics of 'protesting the improriety of the removal of a renowned Muslim', while (hopefully) knowing that it is just politics.

Now here is something for introspection: What is your view of how Muslims should live in US? Should it be the Melting Pot that, say, the Japanese Americans or should it be a Tossed Salad as in UK?

Let him get back to Pakistan...He will be taking deep breath himself. He lived in NY in exile so he has picked up bad habits from there....even chalto talks like this.

zardari, the Chhoopa Rustum??

The Most Dangerous Job on Earth
By ROGER COHEN
Published: September 28, 2008
Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan’s new president and the widower of Benazir Bhutto, does not mince words about the growing Taliban insurgency.

“It is my decision that we will go after them, we will free this country, he told me in an interview. “Yes, this is my first priority because I will have no country otherwise. I will be president of what?
...
He continued: “I will fight them because they are a cancer to my society...I will suck the oxygen out of their system so there will be no Talibs. (ps: watch out 40 inch chest walay bhai sahib urstruly!!)
...
“The I.S.I. will be handled, that is our problem, Zardari told me. “We don’t hunt with the hound and run with the hare, which is what Musharraf was doing.
...“Anyone not conforming with my government’s policy will be thrown out, Zardari said of the I.S.I....I never heard Musharraf frame Pakistan’s fight against terrorism with such candor.

From a Muslim leader, and one so bereaved, I salute that, without reserve.

Re: # 3

hp,

... all, moslem organizations - isna, icna, msa, the local mosque - is that they all eventually end up being dominated by the 'fundamentalists' ..... the problem with islam is that by definition there is no such thing as a 'liberal' moslem (other than tahmed) ..... people who try to define themselves as liberals are rejected and shunned by the mainstream and do not speak for the community ..... for example, you will hardly ever see a non-hijabi woman or a clean-shaven guy speaking for any of these organizations - even the msa is dominated by fuming fundamentalists ........ junaid mian might be biased against american liberls, but more importantly it is the moslems who are biased against these their own 'liberals'

..... by the way, irshad manji has been appearing as one of the commentators on farid zakaria's gps ...........

Politiks is not my favourite genre, Junaid, but I like how Chowk articles sometimes convince me to look at its relevancy.
Tradition -- and what should be the 'liberal' or 'moderate' respect we can afford to it? Popularity stunts like this one, can leave a distaste, much like excess of support can. Indifference is maintained as the 'cool' way to be, and as yet, our writers are not convinced of having any authentic background, of which we can feel a sense of strength by.

The "Modern Age" of the decent Pakistani writer, seems to be the theme of nausea, political indifference, alienation.

“He'd been embraced by groups like the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Islamic Society of North America, renowned for their conservative politics and 'moderate' double-speak."

I never pay attention to what she writes but this is an accurate statement. Both MPAC and ISNA are front for the Muslim fundamentalist. Every single Pakistani leader in both organizations has JI background. They pretend they are moderate but that is just a joke.

“What does the liberal adulation of a professional Islamophobe - one openly adored by neoconservatives, no less - say about the state of American liberalism?

Sounds like you too are presenting the ISNA pov here. First please let us know which liberal group is encouraging her in the US. Frankly, what do you know about American liberals to let loose a barrage of innuendos like “about the state of American liberalism against the American liberals.

Not only American liberals but in UK, which is the real battleground against Islamophobia, the UK liberals are doing one hell of a job which is never made easy by the nutcases in the Muslim community, who come up with all the weird religious importunate statements almost every time. The Muslims in UK have a serious foot in the mouth disease.

Lastly, do you think you are a liberal?

I know I would never get a response but your bias against the American liberals, actually helps the people who are working hard to minimize the impact.
