I met Sonalji earlier this year after arranging for her to talk on campus about Indicorps.

Of course, I was surprised by Barack's choice but soon that turned to an acknowledging delight.

137 contd...
The amount of money getting pumped into islamic infrastructures in BD, Pakiland and India to wage jihad etc..., a fraction to R K M would have created a major difference in education and healthcare segment in India. Unfortunately R K M Alumnis are not doing enough.
Majumder/NB may be knowing better...

Re: # 132
Kal...
R K Mission do not promote any popular god or goddess. It has no temple associated with it. People go to temple and donate in the Hundi. That is the common religious practise in India. Most of us go to temple and donate to get something from God. Furthermore, Bongs ( the main centre of R K M activities) are mostly paper tigers and when it comes to donate money for temple etc...they are very miser...

Re: # 132
Kaal,
As Koenraad Elst said, RSS and VHP is very poor quality organisation compared to RKM, but fortunately it works for poor people quite effectively and occationaly scares moslas by reminding them that it is Bharat; not Iran or Pakiland...
Much of the problem lies with Gandhi/Nehruisation and de-indianisation of cow belt....

135 contd...
You may bring Tagore's response (resignation from Knighthood after 1919, Amritsar massacre) as an example. Sonal Shah had realy done something very good for the people, she should not reject award from state Govt. It is not something like honorary degree...

Re: # 131
Nahok...
"It is indeed very admirable that Vijay Prasad has skewered Sonal Shah for accepting a Gujarat government award for social work in the presence of Narendra Modi...."

Can you please explain, why it is admirable to critisize a person for accepting award, he/she deserves from a democractically elected Govt., with very good record ? Just because BD people tharshed moslas for burning train and state govt. failed to enforce law and order for 2 days!!!! Sir, in 3rd world countries like India, it happens, at least, where, there are some decent concentration of moslems...

Re: # 112
Riaz...

"They want their Hindu ideology to dominate India's governance and laws, showing no respect for and guaranteeing security of minorities in India. Indian Muslims have not been the only victims of violence perpetrated by RSS and VHP...."

What is Hindu ideology? Every state has its own set of culture, which is maintained and evolved for 1000s of years. Now, that is reflected by successive state programs. Why they need to accomodate something very alien and which do not connect with the majority of people? Still, State Govt.s and central Govt. decalres public holiday for the arabic/iranian festivals like Eid, Muharram etc...What do you expect Govt. to do - adopt 7th century arabic lunar calender (which has no significnace to india) for its functioning?

Moslems are notorious in India for high breeding and high rate of criminal activities. People need security from them, not the reverse one...anyhow, it is expected from you people...they way you create jihadi/islamic infrastructure and exploit money using that and then try to bluff people that pakiland is victim of jihad....

salimbro, masadi ji is one of a kind, and I respect him. He loses patience with us lesser mortals very easily though, so it is hard to learn from him. :)

---------------------

jang, very well said. Some days back I tried to google about VHP, for instance. Man, you wouldn't find a more boring and seemingly aimless organization. They have a reactionary bent (opppose Christian missionaries and Muslims) and do some social work, but I couldn't discern any coherent affirmative general philosophy for all - any positive Indic agenda for the future. May be I got so bored I didn't look long enough. A true communal organization will have a solid, coherent, semi-planned approach to conceptualizing, realizing, and promoting a productive, pre-emiment community, and imagining its possible paths into the future, rather than focus mostly on opposing this or that group - no matter how just they may believe their cause may be.

Don't know if there are any other such organizations, but IMO, that is what culturally conscious Hindus would benefit from most, rather than just VHP or R K Mission type of organizations (the former because it lacks a positive agenda, the latter because it has secluded itself into a corner - btw, if any VHP/RK Mission memeber here thinks I misunderstand their organizations, please correct me).

---------------

shah ji, in India, 'secularism fetish' has become an easy alternative to focusing on real problems such as discrimination and offering equal opportunties to all. That is unfortunate, if natural, because the majority community feels no stake in being non-communal (since that is the job left to/usurped by the state).

It is indeed very admirable that Vijay Prasad has skewered Sonal Shah for accepting a Gujarat government award for social work in the presence of Narendra Modi. Is Vijay Prasad just as unforgiving when a Chinese-American accepts an award from Communist China? Or when a Jewish-American accepts an award from Israel? Or a Muslim-American accepts an award from, say, Saudi Arabia?

Indicorps has been damned for accepting funds from VHP among others. Does Vijay Prasad damn Peace Corps for accepting funds from the US government?

Has Vijay Prasad found anyone in the current Bush administration whose credentials are more suspect than Sonal Shah's? If so, has he bothered to go against them as harshly on him/her? Or does prudency force Vijay Prasad to go only after desis?

KaalChakra #123 {"The problem, salibro, is that most Hindus who speak of Hindus' need to be 'secular' to Muslims haven't the least idea of Islam's basic assumption in this regard, and it seems many Muslims don't either. :)"}

Kaaly Bhayya,
...and that explains why Masadi Sahib is always bidding us good night and the request to get an education. :)

kaal, hindoos cannot claim any benevolent communalism without being accepting of others..they need to have an organic, honest proselytizing spirit. its pretty clear that they lack that..there is no such an inbuilt process. they are insular and at more prone to shunning than an egalitarian proselytizing. (hindutva sangathan effort is not organic to the hindoo..its reactionary)

since the end-game as enunciated by the hindoo lacks a spirit of catholic (and homogenous) mankind, it is reasonable to be suspicious in that it is most likely to be communal and not secular.

the hindoo is inherently anarchist and fasadi with nonsense like sarwa dharma samabhava and such.
