It is indeed sad to see how people are so addicted to third rate sopas that revolve around a bunch of ridiculous, over dressed women who have apparently been wronged in one way or another. If only soaps were about real issues!

simply61...
if you are Indian, I would say, she is banking on rise of uncultured economic middle class population in Indian cities. Earlier, average indian middle class household used to accomodate a mini library. That has vanished...Unless and until you produce good literature and ministry of Information and Culture takes some concrete steps, these BS will spread further...from cities to villages and even into decent households....

Hi Raiya,

Good one!

But I think neither the audience has a mediocre taste nor Ekta the magic wand. Its just that while sensible people always find a better option, Ekta gets to play upto the majority who does not have any.

Regards,
Saman Khan.

Hum TV is okay. Some of Mehreen's work is much appreciated, since she is only rising director here on our scene. I hope things will get better.

Bataya tu hai! Sab buddhey ho chukey hain! and
we need a new form of drama. I am working on it. :)

You are right about our Ekta-inspired serials on our TVs. I am also sick of them.

Most of our writers are dead. Some don't write. The rest are either gone non-creative or still struggling to get out of PTV's golden charm!

All art is dying. So sad! :(

Re: # 5Hamari taraf to wakai mein haal bura hai but aapke wale well known writers kahan hain? Woh kyon nahin likh rahe badiya stories?I see Pakisani serials also beginning to look like the Ekta ones with minor cosmetic diffrences. Her serials are truly 'weapons of mass destruction'.

Re: # 3

It is not strange, I guess. Mediocre suits it better!

Re: # 4

Your Golden PTv era is never gonna be back, as Rahat Kazmi often says, "... until this remote control is intact."
Btw, our national scene needs to carry out a deep analysis of its romanticism with PTV era first, I think.
And then, devise another form of their own!

Aapki taraf kay scene ka tu bas "kya kehna hai"! :)

best.

Ekta is the one woman army that has done the most damage to our national psyche and value systems. Its like slow poisoning of an entire population.
For you, across the border, the best remedy would be to re-establishing that golden era of Pakistani TV serials of the seventies and early eighties (that I grew up viewing from this side)
