Re: afrasiyab and Temporal

In the words of the Colonel on Monty Phyton, ``this is getting silly!`` Lets keep the fishes out of it, shall we! Umair is probably infuriated by our petty posts, so let us not give him a reason for charging us with cruelty to animals either! Trust me, this is a slippery slope and it is really hard to get back to the article.

Someone needs to comment on the article and stop this moronic tete a tete (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), because I won`t if you won`t!!! Hovever, getting back to the article, there is a legal maxim which suggests that silence means consent. If that is true, the rest of Chowkwallahs are guilty too, because they are encouraging us by their silence. I tell you, it is a conspiracy. Someone needs to call Oliver Stone and tell him to make a movie about an article on Chowk dealing with the insidious evil of internet in which we can all star in!

I promise this is the last one, but then again, the check is in the mail....!

afrasiyab:

How can you declare, SO publicly, that you find the `other` one hilarious!? Even my plecostomus is offended. She did a belly up circle. Fish are not supposed to do so. But she never went to college, so how`d she know?

Hah! I`m not hilarious! Heck, I laugh at ALL jokes, and laugh heartily. Even when others are slow to grasp them or find them non-existing. I laugh at my own jokes too. (I didn`t go to college either).

Be warned, young man. Your comments are forever filed in many different places. The very mention of your name will trigger them to come forward. And I solemnly promise to do `justice` to whatever you write, wherever you write. This promise is not conditional upon acceptance, and shall cease upon (a) promisor`s incapacitation or (b) certifiable death.

An now to the pressing matter of the `noon saakin`.......

no regards

Re:Temporal

Yes, I did. My reply was in the reply section of ``Jinnah, My Hero``. Doc Patel being my uncle, why not!?

But we are getting off on a seriously askewed tangent here....

Overwhelm Umair...I have four articles pending in the Chowk queue and now you want me submit poems...if I do that, trust me yaar Umair is going to issue a fatwa on me and hire a hit man to carry it out!

Feroze:

My turn to laugh my head off. Better half thinks Chowk is getting to be detrimental to my health.

Did I share with you what Cowasjee wrote? Dr. Jal Patel could be your long lost uncle.

Temporal Post # 10

As per your request, this post is on the topic of Maa and should not be construed by the Chowk staff as a personal exhange. Accordingly, any inferences to a personal nature should be considered as unintentional, coincidental and accidental and should in no way, form, shape, manner, intent, implication or thereto, be thought of as a, or in a, or with, personal communicative format. This, consequently and subsequently, absolves Temperoal and hence with the aforementioned person or alias, from all such would blame.

Temperol, do you think this denial is legal enough for the Chowk staff?

Ferozek and Temporal:

As the author of this poem I should have some say in this, so I say stop it ;)..

(Limping towards the soap box and barely getting up on it)

I cannot believe that the Read Replies section of such a literary work is being used for such petty discussions.

(Getting off it)

(In a whispering mode)

Carry on guys, believe me I am enjoying it very much. Feroze, you are particularly hilarious.

(In case Umair is listening in)

I detest such liberal allowances given to these two rugrats where they make the most awful use of so valueable a space on an esteemed forum such as the chowk. Please record my official protest letter which I will be sending in the form of another poem very soon and post it up on chowk for the other chowkwallas to read.

Temporal and Ferozek:

(Say it as if Jack Benny were saying it and it will be more fun)

``You two make me sick;`` ;););)

Parsi Bawa:
(a.k.a. Feroze)

Don`t sell your self short. Keep sending in those poems. Overwhelm Umair!

My bird from Karachi, rested in D.C. for a few years before winging me to Toronto.

regards,

P.S. Lest this becomes a personal mail, and to keep the staff at Chowk off myback, pls.respond to the Maa(N) bit.

Re: Temperol post # 8

Touché mon ami! Yaar, I could not stop laughing when I read your post...just what my dad would say! All the Parsi girls I knew are married now, but if memory serves me right, they were better kissers than the Muslim girls I knew in Kararchi Grammer School! Yes, I do wear prescribition eyes glasses! You once mentioned that you are from Toronto right? Any chance that you were once in Ottawa, at Lisgar Collegiate Insititute?

As to my poems, they are mostly about my idle musings...I have submitted one or two on Chowk but I have not seen them published...yet! I just submitted a home page on Chowk. It is being reviewed, but there is a poem there. Here it is:

Between branches of arching trees
Which dome the sky above,
Light seeps in amidst emerald glades
Below, and creatures of God small and beautiful
Scurry amid reflections of light dancing,
And should you step upon these grassy paths
Walk softly, for you tread on my dreams.

Like I said, private musings. Nothing like the calibre of poems I`ve seen on Chowk!

Feroze:

Lewinsky? Hmm...... Yar tumharay liye aadhi Parsee larki ka rishta dhoondnay ka khayal hum naiN aaj say chor diyaa!

Let`s have some of those poems you write.

Without going into the worn out Art for whose sake debate, I would say this---artistic expression is no carte blanche. If this poem MAA is written for the sole purpose of edifying or curing afrasiyab`s literary urges, then he can use any spelling or symbol for mother or motherhood. But when it is to be shared on an electronic or paper medium, then other factors, including language usage, should be considered.(By the way, do you wear prescription glasses? This has nothing to do with this interact. Just curious).

Congrats Riazi! Hope you spoil him!

I am still waiting for my brother to make me an uncle so I can spoil my nephew or niece rotten! Since my brother is a highly religious person, in keeping up with sibling rivalry, the kid is going to start drinking beer real early!

Re: Temporal

What about poetic expressions? When I write poetry, I ususally alter the words also. For example: o`er as in over; a`ross as in across; `ills as in hills to affect a similar rhyme. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought poetry is a form of self expression. How a person describes their emotions, sentiments or thoughts is entirely about to them. Hence dropping ``n`` at the end should be considered as a personal choice and not as a linguistic style.

Please do eludicate!

afrasiyab:

Not my game plan to keep anyone on pins and needles. You and others write well. I`d rather encourage everyone to write better. At the same time I must confess that when someone slips I cringe! That`s why I try to point out the very obvious or the not so obvious, perhaps in a neutral, inoffensive way. If the advise is heeded we all benefit. If not, I am out a few minutes of my time.

Ok, so you address you mother as MAA. I still feel you cannot use it in this context. Words are tools in your hands to be used to communicate effectively. In this specific context, you are sharing an elusive, fleeting moment`s pleasures with your readers. How is that feeling enhanced by dropping the ``n``?

Keep sharing,

regards

Temporal:

I forgot to mention this but I had a really heavy hoarse voice even when I was young and that, I am told, sounded like ``Maa`` when I called my Mom ``maan``. It, for some reason stuck with me and I still call her ``Maa.``

Anyways, thanks for your comments. You are very kind to take your time out and read what I write.

Temporal:

I just wanted to share the good news about my cousin giving birth to a boy with all the chowkwalas, that`s all.

I am not sure about your comments on word usage. Did you not like the word usage specifically or was there another problem.

Keep me on my toes.

A mother is one person who always no matter what her circumstances are, is your well wisher...

Its one of the most sacred relations in the world. There are instances when we get invloved in our own families and our own kids and we tend to forget about our moms. This is one mistake we all should strive to avoid.

I expereinced these emotions when I came to the US to study. When I was in Lahore, I used to take my parents for granted and never realized that how much time effort and money they invested on my upbringing...

It was only after I came here that I realized that howmuch my parents loved me.

One thing is for sure that if you have two things in life- there is no force that can keep you from being successful. What are those two things?

One is blind faith in Allah and the second your mom`s prayers. This rule is not new but time tested ...I urge you to try it for yourself...

afrasiyab:

What is MAA? If you meant ``maaN`` obviously there should be a soft ``n`` in the end.

The explanation in the end was, frankly, quite unnecessary. If in a cute short poem you cannot get your thoughts across to the reader, then you may wonder if it was worth the effort.

Hope you understand why I am so picky. You are attempting to write verse in English. One has to give due regard for language usage, normally while talking or writing, but even more so when writing verse. If you tell me to go jump in frigid Lake Ontario, I (hope) I `ll understand.

regards,

P.S. Unless I am hallucinating, I posted a similar comment yesterday when I read you poem.
And later when I checked the replies I could have sworn it was there. But it is not there now!

As just another Mom out there: Thanks. The poem is lovely. Am quite amazed at your sensitivity and quite a bit impressed.
