I came aross the figure of 1:7 VC backed companies succeeding. John gives the figures of 1:10. Are the odds worsening?

Second, the fact that auto and airplane manuf etc. have few competitors standing, does not mean that the shareholders of acquired companies, that no longer stand, did not make a great return on investment when they sold out.

Urstruly,

Since you`re not married yet (judged from t-bhai`s response) and we all want to see your kids someday, I personally will spare you this time. I don`t know about Slink though, you called her a Lady Ninja.

But if you ever mistreat your honay wali B-Vee,

we will remember our conversation here and retaliate.

Things are getting better by the minute. Now the Lady Ninja has joined in too. I think its better that you and I take cover.

slink #73, ``about this edwapps hotline, am i qualified to a)pick up the phone or b) make that call?``

From what I`ve read of your writing, I definitely think you are qualified to pick up the phone.

Congratulations :). Keep it up. We`ll fight together to push the noses of these diseased women down, where they belong, at level with the horizon.

(just between you and I, I enjoy ruffling the feathers of ``some`` women ;)

Studebaker:

Thanks for referring me to Sulekha. After a very long time, I had a chance to browse through that site and it is no doubt - interesting & amusing.

Your poem reminded me of

Pete Townshend`s - Friend is a friend

A friend is a friend
Nothing can change that
Arguments, squabbles
Can`t break the contract
That each of you makes
To the death, to the end
Deliver your future
Into the hands of your friend
Be friendly, befriend me now

Asim Hayat #68,

You see, the problem here is, that Zahra is suffering from a disease common to many womenfolks from Pakistan. It`s called EDWWAPS (pronounced like the name Edward but with `waps` instead of `ward` at the end). EDWWAPS stands for Educated Desi Woman With Attitude Problem Syndrome.

It`s starting to be an epidemic nowadays. We have to do everything we can to avoid it and protect our Desi women from it. I hope Zahra recovers from it intact, because she has a great brain specimen, which I don`t want to see go into the smelly dustbin of snootiness personified.

I`m thinking about starting a hotline for women suffering from EDWWAPS. Any volunteers?

Re: About being boring, irritating, and lack of friends.

``Chowk is becoming quite boring and temporal is irritating!!!![without any doubt]``

Hi Z,

How are you?

I thought being boring is a relative concept. Just like being irritating...both depend on the audience, the environment, the ambience, and the perceived value of the ensuing discussion, and last but by no means least ``context``. Some others can say the same provocative statement, sans regret about quite a few others on this board, myself including. All of this amounts to quite possibly, just words.

You see, i think temporal is quite entertaining, and hilarious in his observations, and is the cause of much blame for his apt choice of language, and for giving direction to the ensuing discussion(towards a much sought after humourous venue and consequent relief)...i see nothing wrong in his take that after all these many years of language courses, we should attempt to be able to write good coherent english. And you see, most of us have just learnt to ramble on... Off the cuff humour, after erroneous interpretation of someone`s remarks (a friendly jibe)on the other hand, and getting all worked, and making the ensuing discussion, if one call call it that, existensial in nature is far, far tragic and irritating. Trust me i speak from personal experience on this one...:)

On another note, i see you lamenting your lack of good fortune on having just a single friend on this forum. It reminds me of the old saying,..``I can not see the woods, because of the trees``. Friends are lurking everywhere. It is ourselves who are too myopic to recognise them for whom they truly are. For friends are not only those who merely stick up for one, under trying circumstances. Those who critique us, and show us our follies, and errors in our logic, are indeed the best of friends. A bit of introsepction truly helps to see them.

One of these days i shall seriously delve into your tree-plantation proposal, and give you some honest feedback;that is not to say that, what i had to write above is in some way not genuine, deserving, or from the heart.

Take care,

Regards

Asim
