Dear Aunty Shabana,
Two months! Two months between articles!? Sounds like a whole lotta ``yada, yada`` to me!
That`s ``yada`` a la Seinfeld if you need a reference for the idiom.
All this talk of shaljum ghost has made me famished!
Your irreverant cousin twice-or-thrice-or-more-removed,
desiscore :-P

(Re: Sobia)
I`ll quote mself:
``I think its not objective wisdom, political insight, social sagacity or the comprehensibleness that matters for a piece of text that has a literary nature. Its about the correct expression of the state of mind that the writer is in. Its about the reader going through the text and experiencing the same state of mind, and automatically moving on to the sub-ideas and super-ideas that had not been able to cross the barriers of the sanity of conciousness and rules of language during the phases of thinking and writing respectively.
This is what I meant by `literary and subjective merits` and you are one of the very few writers I`ve read, whose `pieces` are extremely rich in those merits. Non-literary and political pieces on Chowk are never objectively analysed, and are taken usually at emotional level. The literary pieces on the other hand are usually taken objectively rather than emotionally. If I were a Chowk writer of either type, this approach would seriously depress me as an artist or analyst. How you feel about it, was the `Mystry of the Millenium` for me, and it still is. ``

Dear Shandana,
Really interested in knowing what feedback(if any) you got from the TFT readership. This is the first thing that crossed my mind when i read it on the TFT website and how i wanted to be in Lahore to see if the society has indeed become liberal enough to acknowledge such `GQ` type articles in the local publications.
well done.
Taimur.

What ! No (unending) poopy diaper horror stories :-) ??! Not even a teeny weensy spit-up ?! No flu/cold/ear-infection/colic/nappy rash episodes ? No mom-in-laws bearing calorie laden gonda-ka-ladoos to keep the lactation machine in top gear ? and what of the annoying fascination of turnip head with the 2 cup size increase of said (leaky, achy and over touched) apparatus ? Whew - the joys of motherhood !
BTW for me threats to leave for Maaika with baby or WORSE ... invite your Mum to come and stay indefinitely worked wonders to motivate the spouse in attempting to shoulder parental responsibly.
Good luck ! Do enjoy your baby, before you know it your little bundle will be a preschooler with attitude ... (on the bright side at least when they`re nursing they can`t be picky eaters) !!

//most of the posts in reply to a Shandana Minhas article do not talk about the subjective or literary aspects of the article, and only exclaim objective praises of the article and the writer. //
Why I said this article is good:
1. It`s very well-written
2. It`s funny
3. It`s something a lot of women can relate to, if not now, then maybe eventually later on in life
4. It`s not about India-Pakistan relations
5. It doesn`t diss Pakistan
6. It doesn`t diss India
7. It doesn`t talk about Kashmir
8. It has nothing to do with Islam or Hinduism
9. It`s not about India-Pakistan relations
10. It`s not about India-Pakistan relations

Whew ! The way you put it - there`s definitely much more to motherhood than meets the eye. Overall - a mentally exhausting article & I`d definitely not advise any mothers or to-be`s to go through it, coz it might cause heartache! Ouch !

I`m a newbie to Chowk, but I`ve noticed that most of the posts in reply to a Shandana Minhas article do not talk about the subjective or literary aspects of the article, and only exclaim objective praises of the article and the writer.
I have seen quite a few writers on Chowk by now, and many of them match Shandana Minhas` talent, but I`ve never seen a writer match her `Five Stars Forever` rating. I doubt even Shakespeare would expect such a perfect rating on Chowk.
Am I the only one who percepts a kind of superficial feeling out of this? How does the writer herself feels about this? I really do wonder.

Resentment is perhaps the easiest part of the emotional problem to explain.
