m m,
`Ujar ho jao`................LOL!
There`s another one..............`matthi pado`..................whatever that means but it sure cheeses off my husband no end!
As for your ammi......................feel sorry for your loss........................I think I can picturise her.....................have seen many of her kind. They don`t make them like her anymore.
PS: The `ugaldaans` and the `paandaans` unfailingly make it through the `jahez` even today.
Mine is up there on the shelf as a `show piece`!

Regards.

ah voh Paan ki peek -- and that Ugaldaan -- reminds me of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his Ugaldaan

a year before his untimely death Nusrat FatehAli khan was to be interviewed by an American journalist -- there were rumors that Khan sahib was not feeling well -- he was coughing -- there was some problem with his breathing -- he may not be able to give the concert that night --

the American journalist was supposed to interview him in his hotel room because Khan sahib ould not come out in the lobby -- the TV journalist went to his room with the TV crew -- Khan saheb agreed to give the interview from his bed --

as the cameras and the reorders were beingp placed around him -- Khan sahib with his mouth closed and bulging -- suddenly motioned rather frantically -- at his attendant to bring something in a hurry --

it was the Ugaaldan --

Khan sahib let go a mouthful of red paan spit into the Ugaldan -- one time two times three times --

the American journalist became real alarmed -- told the camera man and sound guys to fold and leave -- they left in a hurry the journalist apologizing profusely for troubling the ailing artist when he is so sick....

while passing through the lobby the journalist shouted at the Hotel Manager to call 911 to send an ambulance fast... the artitst is vomitting blood in his room...

mm saheb/saheba,

if `ugaaldaan` was the trigger, i failed to see the reactions here nor could i connect it with the theme of the story. i would like to congratulate you though on creating a new english language which borrows heavily from urdu, a genuine case of reverse osmosis? finally have not seen any mm on the unplugged which happens to be my unofficial home.
