How true... something worthwhile finally...
Equality Fraternity and Justice for all regardless of religion, caste, gender or orientation.... Karo Kari, and other forms of honor killing and oppression of women is medievalist is nature... are we condemned to be always backward?

a very true and a harsh depiction of life faced by many woman in our part of the world. it reminds me of being a woman who has no life of her own and surely is a puppet in the hands of her fuedal lord. as for romair sahibs comment that it perhaps it is not a very important topic, it sure is and very few have the nerve to put it on the front.

Interesting to see that all the repliers are male (not sure about acloudysky). One would think women would take interest in these kinds of things. Perhaps the topic is not important enough......
The first line of this poem was a translation of an Urdu piece, about twenty years ago. I don`t know what the Urdu piece was about, but the line was interesting. How can the plight of a hunted bird, a falcon understand. I think it is a good depiction of elites in a society trying to understand the plight of the oppressed. I doubt they can ever understand it....

Umair:
In Karo Kari you ask a few questions…reminded me of Pointing Finger
Pointing Fingers
satta-watta, karo-kari
malignant cancers they carry
it’s easy to blame others
feudals, beards we finger
we come up with pathetic gem
“it is never us always them.”
born of women we trash them
at every chance we condemn
we ignore the inner cancer
religion nor psyche answer
we have no character, no will
behind veil of honour we mill
in search of a glory past
wondering why it did not last
we regress behind that era
to the jehalat’s chimera
my brothers in islam soon
in this urge to spit at moon
we’ll be burying our daughter
and women we will slaughter
forget others, lay this blame
on you and me without acclaim

Umair Raja,
It`s nice! :)
Powerful comparisons.
Simple language.
Intense portrayal of the plight of the oppressed.
