Humans live in such despicable conditions in this country one shudders to imagine the plight of animals. good thoughts but with the kind of pressures that our bursting population is putting on natural resorces, flora and fauna are bound to suffer.

I agree. The angle I`m coming from though is the money countless people spend on buying pedigrees, thousands of Rupees, when there are puppies and kittens hungry and homeless on the roads. The mindset is that just because they don`t have a breed, they`re not worthy to be pets.

sidra,

nice sentiments but in a society as poor as pakistan`s with so much HUMAN poverty, isn`t it
a bit of wishful thinking. dont get me wrong, i`m all for animal rights--and even our religion teaches us to be kind to animals--but although animal welfare is a good cause, an even better one is human welfare.

Dear Sidra Omer,

we already have a animal shelter in pakistan run by edhi foundation

Animal Shelter

Edhi Homes were originally meant to provide services to the distressed and ailing destitutes. Soon, however, animals that were cruelly treated by their owners and had become lame, crippled or badly wounded, started ending up in Edhi Centers. These also include missing animals and unwanted pets which have no other place to go except Edhi shelters. In view of the increasing number of such animals, Edhi Foundation established a separate treatment unit which has now grown up into a small zoo. Veterinary doctors look after these animals along with other volunteer staff at super highway, Karachi. These animals include peacocks, owls, deers, monkeys, horses, mules, cats, dogs and a number of domestic birds.
