Thank you all for the well wishes and advise. Even though the feelings in this letter are private and personal, i believe at some level, they are also universal. Although not certain, i am sure that for thousands of years millions of fathers have pondered the same thoughts. My intention was to relate my own experience and hope that it resonates with others who have, or perhaps one day will, go thru the same questions in there own minds.

Fawad,

with a name like 'butt', your son is already the butt of the jokes. He is screwed up before being born, all because you are not a good father.

Good that you have found out the childs sex before he is born and all this crap is because it is a boy.

Having brought up a few, I can tell you, you are on the wrong track, do not impose anything, do not try to rear the child, nurture it.

If possible get an old book, if I remember correctly, " child hood in India' by Sudhir Kakar.

Never mention the "book", that will certainly make him a jihadi.

Well well that reminds me, daughter asked " what is it to be an Indian?"

You have to take a long tern view and you have to be very good at what ever you are doing

Ama yaar, the fastest way to screw up one’s child’s life (boy or girl) is to dump all these expectations on them and saddle them with one’s own baggage! I hope your kid will be a smart one and kick your ass if you try this whining crap for real!

Let a kid be a kid!

PS: Ben Franklin did something similar – placing high expectations of his son – he even wrote his autobiography and dedicated it (throughout) to him. Result? They ended up life-long enemies and never reconciled in life.

Yes the most immediate reaction after reading this letter is a smile.
:)
However, I find no reason for the publication of this article/letter. It is something quite personal. no offence of course.
Best of luck!

:)

You may romanticize with that thought all you want. Once the baby is born I guaranty you, you will be thinking of descent sleep between changing diapers, bathing him, pacifying in the middle of night when he gets colicky and many many more chores that await you.
