to me, honestly, the real fiasco was that this event was an 'invite only' affair. i accept that she is an artist extraorinaire. i accept too, that for many brought up on a rather bland diet of l mangeskhkar she would have been a feast.
however, for that the concert should have been a public affair. so that at the least more people could have shared your misgivings.

its a pity something like this happened in bombay, which is otherwise known for hosting such shows with a high degree of professionalism. perhaps the event management company was not competent enough to realise the importance of this concert and the stature of the singer. otherwise in the past shows of maestros like pandit ravi shankar, shiv kumar sharma, zakir hussain, jagjit singh, zubin mehta etc have been held successfully and handled very professionally by the organisers.

Indians, particularly metro-Indians have become business men. Whatever they do must do for money. Even intellectual and religious gatherings are turned into sort of advertisements and pomp and show. They dont know this have made them look cheap and vulgar. No surprise Nasiruddin Shah skipped the function. I feel sorry for the great singer of the Indian subcontinent. A few years back similar incident took place in a concert of Ghulam Ali. But the money the organisers pay is too big to resist.

That's pretty disgusting. One would have thought mumbaikars would have learnt how to organize such events, by now! :(
