Dear Dr.Mathew,
Thanks for your comments. The Benghazi area is different from the Tripoli region. The Roman West and the Greek East. That is how the old Libya was divided. And even today, there are many cultural differences. Tripoli area with Sabratha, Leptis and in the East- Tobruk,Susa(Apollonia),Shahat(Cyrene), Qasr Libya (Byzantine Mosaics) all make a rich mix.

The Honey at Cyrene is very tasty and so are the butterflies fluttering about the Temple of Zeus.

As one great writer said-After all the wars are over, a butterfly will still be beautiful.

A great read! I could relate to the article very well. I was in Benghazi and am a doctor myself. Many memories came flooding back..of the local church and the Bishop and the priests, of the many African expats I met there who were looking for work or were on their way to Europe ( the would-be boat people ). Of the many trips on weekends to Beida to take in the Roman ruins..and of course, collegues from everywhere. Bravo!
