Re: # 46
tahmed...
yes, you are right. That is the reason, missionary teachers are fleeing Pakistan. On the contrary, these institutions are thriving in India, receiving all type of Govt. assistance...

Your aiticle is very informative . It seems education is you field. I wish you could contribute your knowledge with our policy makers.Education here is in terrible state. Old school system was not perfect, but this school franchising system is a total disaster for our education system.
God give me three things, serenity to accept what i can`t change, courage to change what i can, and wisdom to know the difference.

#66 hamidm: I know it is hard to accept the fact that you have grown up to become a lota..but dont just give knee-jerk reactions - see this as cause for self-reflection and self-improvement.

BTW anyone remember the name of that PT master at St.Mary's the one who proudly displayed his Olympic colors, having represented Pakistan in one of the Olympics as a sprinter?

# 53 Ijaz sahib, salam and greetings of peace. That piece (not to be confused with peace, because it is anything but) can be read online at http://www.selvesandothers.org/article15928.html

#66 hamid sahib, salam and greetings of peace (for now). You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting that tahmed sahib was molested as a child. His molestation happened only after he arrived in the US, his mind to seek escape from alienation constructed and tried to adopt the mythology of the "American Dream", and developed ideas similar to yours, though much more fervent in his beliefs and support of the white man.

That was his unthinking, un free response to his forced subordination to the white man. He thereby converted himself into 'social peon' that the authorities in the US leave alone, as opposed to the 'social dynamite' that they process and send to jail, because the dynamite (like my good self) has the audacity to consider himself a free man!

Have a nice day and keep it real,
TNI masadi

Re: # 60

tahmed,

.... so you know havaldar (rtd) haq nawaz ? ...... there were always rumors that he was a child molester and a couple of years after we left he was fired for trying to molest a student ...... i hope you are okay ....

satya: are you a complete idiot? that was a rhetorical question by the way. I was not educated at a convent and my mommy would not let me eat Cadburys unless it was a very very special occasion.

now do the virtual race a favor and bugger off. you would not know "satya" if it slapped you in the face.

tahmed writes St. Pats was the one next to St Marys on Murree Road I think. right?'

St. Patrick' is in Karachi. St. Mary's had an Australian principal when I started, then he went away and they got a Sri Lankan principal, I forgot his name but he was a tiny bat out of hell in how he terrorized the kids....

hamidm #59 So you joined Lalazar the year I left (in the middle of my PSc as my father got posted out of Rawalpindi). You must have been that little guy who got pushed aside on the steps every afternoon. The one who went whimpering about being bullied to that insane PT master (the retired fauji) who then arranged a proper fight with the bully wearing boxing gloves.

kata (resting in peace) put us to sleep reading history in his monotonous voice too. o'leary (resting in peace in UK along with a medal he received from the Queen for building the rawalpindi hospice followed by hospices in latin america and one final one in his home town in UK) had us parsing english sentences into adverbs. father byrne (resting in peace at harley street in rawalpindi) had obviously cornered the market on labs. before the red labs, he had black labs (at murree road).

You obviously became a lota despite, not because of, the hard work of all these fine people.

Re: # 55

fuzair mian,

i was there from 65 to 70 and those were big red labs, not st bernards ..... they followed father byrne to his geography class and patiently waited outside the class room ..... kata taught history, udas chemistry and paa altaph taught mathematics ..... kata died and udas and altaph went to the uk to do their phd's - they were great guys .... i wonder what happened to them ...

.... masadi went to st mary's when it was going through a bad spell - maybe he was the reason for the rot !
