Re: # 1
alpha...
hey arab muslas are highest ranked muslas and lessar muslas/arab wanables in Pakiland and India have to be worried much more about THE HOLY land than anything else...
Yashmin...
So, muslas uniting to protest against killing of muslas in SWAT, Gaza, Iraq, Darfur...
hold on- Darfur is not in the list...arab muslas are killing african muslas there, so it is not be treated as atrocity...like paki muslas raping and killing bongs, including muslas....

Here is the typical Paki musla logic...
Hamas attack killed handful of israelis but Israeli attack killed more people in Gaza, that toooo Muslas...So, Israelis are villains and should be #@*&%...
now, does hamas have more firepower but they fired only couple of rockets to Israel sending message of love and piece as preached by Mo, the 7th century beduin raider...or it was full scale attack with best of their ability?
the first one is most likely....
...so, what israel should do?
they reciprocated the message of love and piece in much more proportions...

How about some Arabi Imperialism loving person recounting "horrors" of that horrible Hamas and Hezbollah cult's bombing of Israel??
How about protest AGAINST Paki Jehadi groups inside Pakistan by the same Pakistanis who now organize proetest against Israel?
How about those closet-Jehadis coming out and speaking against those who speak to fight for their "muslimness" and their Islam??

Thanks Yasmin for this inspiring write-up. In these bleak times when the powers that be (including the new Obama administration) and the US media have completely ignored the atrocities being committed using US dollars and US backing, the activism on the streets and the energy of the youth is one of the few things that inspires hope.
I can attest to your observations - when I headed out on BART to attend the SF protest on Jan 10, the coach was packed with high school students also heading to the protest, several of who were Lebanese American. Talking to them I was impressed by their degree of political awareness and energy.
Change is not going to come from "top-down", but from "bottom-up", and our path to a better future lies in the hands of these youth.
Another thing that gives me hope has been the response of the progressive Jewish community. While mainstream "liberal" groups have mostly been silent, groups such as Jewish Voice for Peace and others have been very vocal in protesting the atrocities done by Israel in their name. The actions to shutdown the Israeli consulates in LA and SF have been inspiring too.

It is true that muslims are organized but post 911 the focus was more on islam. They stayed away from politics(atleast publicly), especially on anything related to Palestine.

groupism, politics and political conflicts are of more interest to muslims than other groups... they get involved in these things much more intensely and more often than other groups.... where on earth muslims have significant presence and are not involved in groupism/politics (creating political muslim organizations)??
