Ref 12-Head #12 (What a coincidence!)

[Padma breaks up relationship with Rushdie == London, Feb 9
Author Salman Rushdie has reportedly split up with his girlfriend since 1999 Padma Lakshmi because he no longer found her ``intellectually challenging.``]

If Rushdie means by ``not intellectually challenging`` that screwing Padma Lakshmi out of her brains doesn`t take too long, one would think the problem is with him rather than her!

Anoop
Sounds so familiar. The cultural events in school and college are what stand out in memory even after many years. College and school teachers have to be commended for unwearyingly year after year encouraging their students to display their er `latent` artistic talents:).

[Or… It’s your cousin’s wedding and an icebreaker is desperately needed or you’ll never be able to chat up that cute thing in the red ghagra-choli. WHAT DO YOU DO???? ]

Thanks for the idea... wonder why it never came to me before :)

anoop...this was fun to read, thanks!

{But I digress. The point is: we’re always encouraged to put our best feet forward and go ahead and do what we’re doing in front of “others”. Never mind that we suck, nobody cares. We go up there, we stick it out despite the boos and the helpless laughter, we finish our little act, take our little bows and hurry off to glowingly radiant parents waiting backstage, don’t we?
And this can lead to a whole lot of fun.}
--this is exactly what I think when I go to a karaoke bar, and destroy a Sinatra song or can never manage to sing Gloria Gaynor`s `I will survive` without sounding flat...`cept I don`t have glowingly radiant parents waiting for me...bemused friends is more like it. :-)

Anoop, this was really nice. Did indeed bring back some memories. Our school patron was French so our school anthem had 4 languages in it, French, English, Hindi, and Marathi.

Ansari, Ganeshotsav mandal is a group of people who come together to celebrate the Ganesh festival. It can be from a really small building level mandal to quite a large scale one. They collect money, manage the pandal for all the days of the festival, and have some fun. And of course there is lot of music involved. This started in Pune more than 100 years ago and is really big all over Maharashtra, Bombay included, and also some other parts of the countries.
