Mantolives you said:, the PPP`s popular vote was still 3 times as much as the MMA and considerably more than the King`s league....
That`s incorrect, the Kings party fielded less candidates then the PPPP

In what way was this report anti-Musharraf?
Moderation is being encouraged in Pakistan
so why not help out and join hands with the
largest political party in the country and
its leader, Benazir?

Well Romair...
Thank God... you are a canadian and not a Pakistani... and thank God no one is holding a gun to your head.
As for Pakistanis ... genuine ones... it seems that despite all odds a great number of them still favors BB over all others... Despite all the pre-Poll rigging to prop up the King`s League and the Mullah diversion, the PPP`s popular vote was still 3 times as much as the MMA and considerably more than the King`s league....

``It seems that people will continue either to vilify or glorify BB here. That leaves no room for intelligent discussion. ``
good observation. villification is glorification.

Urstruly:
Your anxieties towards Zardari and his family hood are not stunning. As most of people have made this pre-focus when chattering affairs of state. Let the time decide who is at right.
”Jail Khanay ki Qaid WA Saoobat mai.n koi Criminal apni saza say guzar raha hai”
If you look behind you will see how much growling n snarling had been done with Monica Lewinski and Bill Clinton issue. Clinton was trapped by Jews in the name of Free Media emancipation. And the whole trial which now seems as juvenile was hot topic of continents then. Hilary Clinton despite of such Media pressure helped her husband in going through those hard political times. However it was understandable that Hilary and Clinton mutual conflicts were bubbling in their personal matters.
But didn’t he give democracy to his country. Wasn’t he the peaceful leader at least I saw in short history of observation of US Presidents.
Army has never concurred the opinion of people of Pakistan. No doubt it is an institution of great respect, dignity and security. But it’s appropriate in its bases. Whatever they guiding principles may be. One day they will have to leave. What space of governing they will leave for populace.
Jis Jageh mera Khait tha waha rait dalta ja raha hai Pani
Mujhay kia farq parey ga agar yeh Darya Utter bhi jaye
Their rules will die with them. And that’s why whenever people’s government comes into play people carry bleak opinions about its future and prosperity. The democracy doesn’t establishes in two three years of time frame. This is also empathy that no leader has completed the whole time span of its governance.
Beynazir is accused of disgracing nation by exposing information outside country. Then I say Western media knows more than what our public knows. What we are trying to hide? Military viciousness, suffocation, denouncing of public opinions, corrupt elections, self proclamation by unjust referendum….

From Dawn Today......
PPP leads in seven NALC constituencies
By Safdar Khan
GILGIL, Oct 12: In a major upset, government-backed candidates are facing defeat, trailing behind Pakistan People`s Party Parliamentarians and independent candidates in many constituencies in the Northern Areas Legislative Council elections held on Tuesday. Independents are said to be faring well in many areas.
According to partial results reaching Gilgit late on Tuesday night, PPP candidates are leading in seven constituencies followed by independents who are leading in six constituencies.
Polling for the 24-seat Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) was held peacefully in all the five districts. Only a minor case of violence was reported from the Rondu area of Baltistan.
The Election Commissioner, Muhammad Ghazi Khan, told Dawn that the polling started at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break. The turnout was 30 to 35 per cent.
In 17 constituencies from where partial results were received, the PPP managed to win 7 seats, PML-N, 2, independents 4 and the ruling PML 4. Results from 7 constituencies were awaited. PPP had fielded candidates in 17 constituencies, PML in all the 24 constituencies, JUI-F in 6, PML-N in 7, and JI in 1. A record number of 73 independents were contesting.
According to partial results, two former advisers, Shaikh Ghulam Haider Najfi and Haji Janbaz Khan, and Northern Areas Legislative Council deputy speaker Muhammad Jafar were behind their rivals.

Z.A. Bhutto was a mixed bag. He started some great things (Nuclear, Steel Mill)
and some not so great (casino, murdering his political opponents, losing East Pak).
But there should be a lifetime ban on Benazir (the cokehead of Harvard) and her
whole crooked family from ever stepping foot on Pakistani soil. Even while she is
in self-imposed exile, she has continued to issue highly provocative, irresponsible
press statements that were aimed to jeopardize Pakistan`s standing in the comity
of nations.
IMO, the woman is mentally unfit to hold ANY public office.

SONG OF THE EXILED PAKISTANI POLITICIANS
(To be sung to the tune of ``Home on the Range``)
1. Oh, give me a home
Where the generals roam,
Where rogue pirs and politicans play;
Where seldom is heard
A discouraging word
As they steal from poor Abdul all day
Chorus:
Home free with foreign exchange
Where the people they have no say
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
As the bandits play sahab to poor Abdul all day
2. How often at night
When the heavens are bright
With the lights from the Surrey Palace
Have I been marvelin`
At how from a nation that is starvin`
The PM and hubby could steal so much and still be so fearless
To toss in the kitchen sink and a 100K necklace
Chorus: (Repeat)
3. Oh, give me a land
Where the bright diamond sand
Is lost to whoever is reigning supreme;
While like a graceful white swan
Their BBs go gliding along
Like maids in a heavenly dream.
Chorus: (Repeat)
4. Where the air is so pure,
The bandits so free,
And life is so balmy and light,
That the thugs would not exchange
Their home on rawal range
For all of the world`s cities so bright.
Chorus: (Repeat)
5. Oh, I love those wild powers
For the rich in this dear land of ours,
While the poor in curfew cannot even scream,
And the generals get their plot
And the pious and the drunkard have brought the nation to rot
While poor Abdul is the one who gets blown and gets shot
And the mullahs they howl like sheep wearing green
Chorus: (Repeat)

i recently attended a course/ training on money laundering ... the trainer was from a very reputed firm based in Europe... benazir / zardari`s money laundering tactics were part of the course material and was one of the case study ... others were Marcos. Suharto, Mobutu ...
Back in 1988 she and her party looked so promising ...
sometimes i think that her corruption was probably her revenge from Pakistanis for not standing up for her father when he was taken to gallows unlawfully by the military...
regardless she should be punished and i hope that she would not lead any future government in pakistan

``zardari was the biggest mistake of her life ``
Such low pathetic comment on relational terms. There might be thousands of couples living mistaken lives. Some people think that just critizing relationships and housejobs can be a topic of political discussion. Such arguments leave no room to grow in politics.
If Zardari would have any such things in his mind he would have flown to Jeddah or somewhere else like Nawaz Sharrif in first instance.
After closing every door to Democracy people are saying no hope only loss, No cause... Military is the only hope to cling for survival. Such shallow perspectives...
I see those people who have never put a single vote in the country talk abou its future and
democracy. What a pity...

History does throw up instances where individuals, personalities, organizations and/or institutions come together in such a way that distinction between the concrete and the abstract seems to disappear.
BB, and her PPP represent a certain set of ideas. But what is most often discussed is not the ideas BB and the PPP stand for, but her personality. The same holds true for any party, leader, institution or individual. Is it that, we Pakistanis, as a collective, are entirely incapable of seeing beyond the immediate and the palpable?
What exactly is the Pakistani state anyway? Who or what does it represent at the present?
The PPP, PML (N), MQM, MMA, all put themselves across as contenders for state power; exactly what changes will occur in the character of the Pakistani state if one of them comes to power?
I seek answers, I seek enlightenment . . .
