Madeha:

...all of a sudden her eyes were filled with an odd sense of sadness as she looked from me to the chicken and then back to me...

big time indecision...am sure she could not decide between you, the aaloo and the murghi which is......khair!... welcome and keep sharing...

wow - missed death by dismemberment by a whisker! :)

madeha - fun read and v. relatable. I`m guessing you`ve got the drift by now, but here`s the thing about moms and cooking: you`ll never upstage them. I bet even the greatest chefs of the world have to go home and take it on the chin. Part and parcel of a healthy mother-child relationship.

Madeha -

Nice and funny! Liked reading it. But I suggest that you listen to your mom and learn how to cook. I see that you are an aspiring lawyer. I can imagine you standing in the Federal Court House in Manhattan articulating your cases against the corporate america`s big wigs. I can also see you perhaps one day making it as the first muslim justice of the US Supreme court. But really, what good it would do if at the end of the day you can`t even put a decent plate of haleem or nihari in front of your husband, who has just come home after a hard day of work.

think about it!

OK, before the ardent feminists of chowk tear me to pieces, i meant all this in jest.
