You are right - I was just thinking that myself - about the thread getting rather worn. I was going to say I think it is time I stopped posting because now it seems more like an exchange of e-mails than anything to do with the topic in the first place.
Anyway, my e-mail is the same - it is parihoonmain@yahoo.co.in. Shows a sickening lack of originality, I know, but what the hell? After all, what`s in a name, right?

Lata I find is too high pitched for some tastes. It`s sad that music directors made her sing at that pitch but then they revelled in finding a singer who could start that high on the scale and go higher whiile effortlessly holding sur. She could sing in lower scales beautiifully too , you may have listened to some of her non-filmi songs.
I have always liked Geeta Dutt butt that was because her voice had magic. Technically she was nowhere in Lata`s league.
Some people like Wodehouse as they grow older, others find him repetitive. I have a variety of his writings, from his school stories all the way to the omnibuses. He was a fast bowler and a fairly okay boxer in his school days.
I remember seeing some of those serials from 1982 I was in college then - or thereabouts till around `89 when I first landed up in the US. I liked some of them. However I was never too much into TV. Over here while I support the PBS channel (and I support them every year) I watch a few programs like Nova, all the cooking stuff (I like to cook) , Mystery and drama and music bits. But , I watch with most regularity my footer channel the one which shows the footer matches, from the English League, to La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Champions League. I adore footer. Can`t shake off the Mallu blood.
It`s going to be difficult to keep posting on this site as this topic gets consigned to history. We can exchange mails at sadanand_warrier@yahoo.com or start some topic on unplugged. You can still hide your identity by opening funnyname@yahoo.com or something.

Well, he likes Rafi and Kishore, so there`s hope for him yet. But when he says Lata`s voice hurts his ears, it is kinder to kill him. He rather likes Geeta Dutt among the female singers. As for the rest, I don`t know about you, but I really can`t listen to some of the singers (?) he claims are `today`s youth idols`. He thinks I am a fuddy duddy, he even makes fun of my affection for PG Wodehouse. My favourite authors don`t strike a chord with him, though we are very close to each other. My sister is illiterate - she prefers her daily dose of Indian Idol and Eligible Bachelor to reading.
Star TV has also deteriorated. WHen they first set up shop they used to have rather decent programmes - now it is all a matter of TRP. Therefore, the programmes have to resonate with the lowest common denominator. They do show some non- hollywood movies, though, as I said, not as before. There is more of the pop cultute evident on TV now.
I would have liked to see the serials from Doordarshan`s days of glory - Nukkad, Intezaar, Mr ya Mrs, Idhar Udhar - my sister still swears by them. I will take her word for it - she is the resident expert on allthings television.

Well if he likes the music you do , it might be worthwhile listening to some of his stuff. Just to get a different idea. When I was in college etc, I listened to a lot of rock , jazz rock , avante garde stuff and I bought those albums. I still have them but I cannot listen to them any more. Except for a few classics I just don`t find the complexity in them that I used to think there was. Of course the Hindi film music of my youth was pitiable most of the time.
Does Star movies still show non-hollywood films late at night?

Cacofonix is alive and well - I will never understand the noise he calls music. It is worse than the autorickshaw`s jhankaar beats, which is enough to give me a headache. Can`t even throw him out - he is bigger than me. Besides, he claims he loves me:-)

[WjSm, You have to be more than drunk - that blood in my alcohol stream is as old as the ages:-)]
Hoary chestnuts are for aged men such as me , who dream of their youth and cannot spin new lines. You liked that Motilal line didn`t you? He spent his real life the same way. Good hedonist.
Amrita has gone looking for greener pastures, I guess. How is Cacofonix doing? Has he taught you to fly yet. Has fear lent you wings , like the Normans?

WjSm, You have to be more than drunk - that blood in my alcohol stream is as old as the ages:-) But the Jaagte Raho song is beautiful. I really liked Motilal in that - especially when he says - `Tum Sharaab nahi peeti, jua bhi nahin khelte, cigarette bhi nahi peete, race bhi nahin jaate . Aao, ghar aa jao, aur meri patni ko samjhao ke yeh sab na karnewaale ka yahi haal hota hai.`
Amrita, long silence, what`s up? Got sick and tired of us all?

Sorry, I`m not allowed to drink during working hours, hence the mistake. Can`t think straight with so much blood in my alcohol-stream.
I sit corrected. But .....
Ek pyali bhar ke maine
Ram ke mare dil ko di
Zeher ne mara zeher ko
Murde me phir jaan aa gayee
Zindagi khwab hain .......
Khwab mein, jhoot hain kya
Aur bhala , sach hain kya?
Tinks, forgive me for being sober.
Kulharee isn`t that a lovely song. The Anand one?
Mukesh, Salilda combination. Lyrics Yogesh.

This single brain celled organism had worked that out before painfully typeing out the message. I left the vowel in type to confuse people. However I thought that the names of Maquis Donatien Alfonse de Sade and Ferdinand Masoch would enliven our discussion since you spoke about sneezing throwing up etc etc.
Scrat my friend was the pre-historic squirrel. A mighty acorn hunter but a feeble brain. Better than moi , though.
I can still sleep in Bombay though the chikoo and mango trees outside my house have gone and I can barely see the sun with the taller buildings around. The roads seem smaller though and I would no longer get down into gutters to catch rat snakes as I used to do when we were kids.
I lived in Ville-Parle and used to run down Juhu beach in the mornings to play footer. Can`t do that any more. Nor can Kulharee make like Rajesh Khanna and gaze out of the balcony and sing.
Kahin door jab din dhal jayen
Sanjh ki dulhan , badan churaye
Chup kaise aayen......

Oye yourself. For WjSM, please refer to post # 87. The movie you are looking for, I think, is Bazaar. Shabana Azmi, Nasser, Supriya Pathak, Faroque Shaique? Can`t think of any other at the moment. Yes, I forgot Jhankar Beats. That was hilarious. What about Bombay Boys? I liked Paheli. :-( Do not make fun of it. The ghost Shahrukh was rather cute. And what about Dev? Yes Ice Age was great. I fell in love with the squirrel and the sloth. Who is Scrat?
Where do I live? Bombay, where else would the morning cacophony wake up the Gods instead of the serene Suprabhatam? Besides, the gods have given up trying to sleep in my house. It is filled with the absolute raucous cacophony (my nephew calls it `music` - I call him Cacofonix) in the night and come morning, there is enough noise from outside. LOL

Kul
Thanks for the CD. I am going to play it today.
Tinks you have given him all my snob movies. I think he should see the silly ones too. I like Jhankar beats. I tried to see the one with Shabana Azmi as a classical singer but it did not work well. By the way Kul, you should see Umrao Jaan.
What was the one with the Naseer , Supriya Phatak one set in Hyderabad , Tinks? That was good to. It had lovely songs. And Ijaazat. Smashing stuff.
Music in our movies took a dive with the Disco craze. It`s coming back slowly. Kulharee check the sound track of Paheli. It has nice tunes. The movie was so , so. Not bad.
Tinks where the hell do you live, such that cacophony cannot be drowned out by a good dose of Suprabhatam?
Amrita is probably writing up a storm on some computer virus.

Oye say (notice the aussie accent)
Weren`t trying to drive nobody away please miss. Us were trying to be nice citizens. Visited unplugged to see gratuitous insults being flung around. Spoke metaphysics with Zeemax on another thread. Then got caught up on a hardware design issue and actually had to work.
Does WjSM stand for WarrierjSadistMasochist or are you trying to speak Welsh? I shall still see 15 Park Avenue. If two DVD`s give up on my crusty old player and my son`s playstation 2 I have to see why. It could be that the machines are trying to warn us..
Why do you get the feeling we are trying to drive you away from this forum? Kul is a man of many interests. I have seen him open all sorts of topics on unplugged. Now me, when you get to my age, I potter along slowly.
That being said I must go and see ice age 2. I really liked Scrat in the first one.
