Posting on Masadi sahib's behalf:

HP writes "The story of Afghanistan is not just all about the Pak army, the ISI, Zia, or the US. The left and the Soviet Union made many mistakes there too."

While "mistakes" might have been made, the major players were not the "left" in Afghanistan that brought it to the condition we see today, the major cause of its condition today is the US using the Pak Army and the ISI and the mullahs. The left and the mullahs don't see eye to eye, and regardless of the concessions made by the left those with ulterior motives i.e. the US (whose backyard Afghansitan was not unlike the SU, who wanted moreso to keep the US (using the mullah cover of the countryside)out of the area rather than dominate it for the sake of reaching a warm water port (as was speculated), would have acted. We saw what happened to ZAB and how after every concession to the Mullah they wanted more and more, this is not how a country is salvaged or the left mainstreamed, it is how they are either coopted or butchered by the powerful interests, and do not forget that the left tries to incorporate the people into the power equation unlike the powerful interests that use them to maintain the current structure.

The fault was not with the left, and the lefts policies didn't fail in Pakistan or any other place, the fault was with a much better organized and powerful opponent who using the local thugs could get what he desired, the left was made to fail and regardless of the "lack of mistakes" or compromise would have been made to fail. Now, when the US seeks escalation into Pakistan of its farcial WOT, look how it reacts to any attempts to "consider the countryside"- suggesting that it all be ignored and no deals made....This my friend was the anatomy of the problem: the US wanting to punish the SU in its own backyard, the SU deeply trapped in the US farcial (cold) world war, understanding this and then intervening, thus falling into the US trap, before this even when Afghanistan went with a begging bowl to the US, the US ignored them. Their interest was viz a viz the SU, and they are not so "benevolent" to let the SU act and then do their part, they preempt and seek to escalate, like they are doing in Pakistan, they seek to set traps- you are being too forgiving of the US actions in that area that has reduced Afghanistan to the stone age graveyard it has become.

Regards

PS: Tahir mian, Masadi sahib wishes to inform you that as per your gracious request, he will drop the use of "F" from his chowk vocabulary but reserve the right to use "peon of the West", "fool", "moron" and other assorted observations about some posters....

Harishbhai,

what one thinks is right may not always be right.

Someone could for instance take a stance that Injuns were wrong in seeking independence from Brits.

Guru-ji,

If India had not been partitioned, Hindoos and Muslims would have still been fighting each other on every small thing and things would have come to a complete standstill.

And you accuse Pakistani elites of being Anglophiles and then quote a gora to show that Soviet invasion of A'stan was a corollary of Partition. The two are completely unrelated items.

Nkg moshai,

He was from a clerical family.

Wrong. His father was a well-known barrister and a prominent member of the INC.

To be minister in a great country like India, was definitely prize catch for that low life.

Correct.

created a confused document.

Where is the contradiction and confusion?

Gandhi had simply no proper vision how India will look like

Correct again.

And it took 4/5 years to finalize the document!!!!!!

Wrong. It took just a little over 2 years. Work started sometime in 1947 got completed by Nov 1949, was adopted by Jan 26, 1950.

LW,

Population stabilisation will follow economic growth, not the other way round. Large population is not a disadvantage provided it can be trained and given opportunities.

Tahir mian,

Your advice to Masadi sahib is very timely. The problem is with double standards. Masadi sahib gets banned at the drop of a hat while some other folks get away with blue murder. You can refer to Zee sahib for details.

Amin sahib,

Afghanistan may be partitioned into North and South if Pakistani interference continues. That would neither be in Pakistani interest nor Afghan interest. This would further lead to Balkanisation of Pakistan in the long run.

What about the potential upside? Pakistan uniting Pushtoon parts of A'stan with itself. Should be feasible IF Punjoo elite are willing to co-opt the Pushtoon. Admittedly a big IF though.

Nkg moshai,

(J C Bose was inventor of Microwave communication)

It was also discovered by Marconi separately. Marconi was able to commercialise his invention, JCB didnt. Not his fault though.

(He desereved 2 Nobels for his contribution in electronics and communication engineering, each for both the sections)

Till I last checked, the Nobel Foundation hadnt introduced electronics and communication as two sperate categories.

(He even denounced his Knighthood for Jaliwalanbag massacre.)

That happened in 1919 after he had received the Nobel.
