Arjun mian,

Thanks, maybe you can post the T-shirt post also.

But it is OK to make a mistake as long as you learn from it.

FM Romair,

As regarding the original Afghan shyte (1979-90) I am pretty sure there was no Indian involvement in military affairs and very marginal even in economic terms- remember India was a broke fourth world nation then.

Since 2001, there certainly has been some involvement of Indians but this is largely benign- building roads, power grids etc (basically infrastructure that your folks destroyed in the first place). There has possibly been some intelligence involvement but this seems to be mainly on the B'stan frontier for needling Pakistan in B'stan, certainly not creating mayhem inside AFGHANISTAN. But Amin sahib can elaborate on the Indians' role there.

Nkg moshai,

What is the movie about? Can you give a brief synopsis and how it is related to the Baramulla issue?

Field Marshall Romair,

then the blame goes on countries like india also, which fully supported the soviet invasion and massacre.......

You have chosen to blame India for the same reason that mountaineers climb a mountain- "Becuase it is there"

India's support for the "invasion and massacre", while morally repugnant, was a non-issue. It was not as if India provided military or financial support to the occupiers or otherwise did anything which led to the tragedy. India's action or lack thereof in A'stan was of little consequence as let's say Burkina Faso's was.

similarly pakistanis line up to migrate to usa, and those who are there (like hamidm and urstruly etc.) don't want to come back to pakistan

Well, I guess you can't write a post without dissing your fave bugbears!!! But to be fair to Hamid mian, he isn't a hypocrite. He believes that USA is great and his decision is consistent with his ideology. Sadly, the same thing can't be said about Maulana Urstruly- he is a hypocrite and plate p***er.

Pinku,

You can discuss how aborting of foetus is less bad compared to life-long slavery, if you want to.

No, thanks. But I think you can put an I-log or open an UP thread on the subject.

Pinku,

Salimbhai has never denied his Hindoo roots. He takes pride in the fact that he is descended from Prithiviraj Chauhan.

treated as second rated citizen like in Arabia (old and current both).

Good God, dont tell me that Arabs are also aborting female foetuses en masse!!!

Salimbhai,

My two cents on the Hyd-Kashmir issue.

1. Both India and Pak played a dishonest role in the Princely states issue. If India's claim for all three states you mentioned was dishonest and in contravention of the TNT principles, so was Pak's claim on all three provinces. JK shud have gone to Pak, Hyd and J'gadh to India on the TNT principles. And mind you India had a figleaf of claim on JK as the largest political party there was inclined towards India, although Muslims had a majority in JK. Pak did not have that EVEN THAT SMALL figleaf of claim in Jgadh or H'bad. At the end of the day both used perverse logic and India having the bigger lathi kept all the three buffalos. Being the weaker entity Pak shud have taken resort to ethical rather than military claims.

2. Role of MAJ (pbuh)- Please dont get me wrong, I am a great admirer of the Man, but he screwed up Pak on Kashmir. Very simply, the war would have been unnecessary had he accepted the principle that the Princely States fate would be decided by the religion of the population. Lord M incidnetally did say something of this sort. India in 1947 would have happily traded J&K for Hyderabad (Sardar Patel actually made such an offer) but Jinnah sahib for his eagerness on getting his hands on Hyd and possibly the Rajputana provinces refused a compromise and forced Pak into an unequal war. In this he was misled by Ghulam Mohammed, his Finance Minister who was on the payrolls of the Nizam. Pak was broke in 1948 and Nizam offered Pak financial support in return for which Pak was to lobby UN for maintaining Hyd's independence. For the shadow of Hyd, the substance of J&K was lost.

3. The Baramulla episode- The tribals after reaching Baramulla fell prey to their own carnal desires and spent a day enjoying the company of good looking Kashmiri girls and boys (often against their desires). They had an espeically notorious episode in St. Josephs Convent in Baramulla. And they missed getting Srinagar airport by a few hours. Had they not wasted time in Baramulla they would have captured the airport and finished off the Indian campaign in J&K. Later, they cud have gone back to enjoy the Kashmir scene.

Salimbhai,

Both accurate and entertaining at the same time, an usual hallmark of all your FP articles. Will leave behind comments in details later, esp Kashmir-Hyd.

Hamid mian,

and, by the way, the us HAS won the war in iraq ... all it has to do is maintain its bases for the next fifty years

Sure and at the end of those 50 years USA wud be no better off than when Saddam was at the helm of affairs in Iraq.

FM Romair,

Much of the troubles in India today- whether it is SIMI's jihad or the Bajrangi's goondagardi is homegrown shyte and will be solved/worsened by our own choices. Should India not join WOT, even a worsening in Pak's situation will have minimal impact.

FM Romair,

much like the wave that has come, since the first (and second) afghan war has swept from afghanistan to pakistan, it will eventually sweep into india also.....

The War came to Pak 'cos its elite chose to make it Pak's war, it did not come uninvited. Same ways, if India chooses to stay away from the war it wont come to India. In that sense Iqbal's theory about Pak being India's first line of defence would come true in an ironical sort of way.

Dash babu,

this was in an era when communications were non-existant

In the era of ICBMs, the heartland theory is futile, probably even the Mahan theory needs to be modified.

MAB sahib,

Cattle not only fart but also give gobar and urine (the famous Hindoo gaomutra), which are good fertilisers and helps plants fix CO2. Cattle are sustainable CO2 generators, cars are not.
