India Did Not Kick Us Out
Posted by avkrishna Dec 6, 2005 05:43 am
FV,

This keeps getting more ridiculous.

So, you have posted this article to refute one person`s account (who is not exactly known for his composure) about a dancer (on whom it appears that you have a soft corner) being `kicked` out of India, on the front page..

Is this what Chowk had come to?

IMO, This is a misuse of your editorial privilege.

Why couldn`t you have posted this in Unplugged/Self publish section?

Thanks,

So why is this article (if it is) on the front page?
What happened to the new standards set by the editors?

And Ms. Kermani, hope you will have a better experience when you come back to India..

Re: # 144

I agree with you. My use of `average` is only about his technical skills which are relatively inferior compared to his administrative and leadership skills,

He is an amazing person. No doubt about it. Very very insipirational,

rommel, the author and others:

Thanks for the info on the origin and development of Pak`s nuclear bomb.

Given that the basic design of nuclear bomb is available to almost everyone, I dont suspect nations like India, Israel, Pakistan and others to develop them if there is enough focus and desire. Maybe they are not advanced, but I am sure they would suffice. After all the target is pretty close geographically for all these countries..

So questioning the very existence, as being done by some here, is only wishful thinking and not realistic.

Coming to the issue of the significance of AQ Khan in this endeavour, I am in the camp, who believe that his role is highly overrated and there are a lot more people who deserve the credit. I believe that PAEC deserves the real credit.

The same goes for Abdul Kalam in India. Apart from an efficient administrator, humble human being, a true patriot, a truly gifted and motivating speaker (having had the fortune of listening to him in person) Abdul kalam is an average scientist and the real credit for the Nuclear bomb in India goes to distinguished folks of Indian Atomic energy commission...

But this does not make the recent sham trial of AQ Khan acceptable. I think Pakistan had not proven to be completely responsible in managing the nuclear bomb by attempting to give the technology to N Korea and Libya, but it would be ridiculous to say that AQ Khan is the guilty person. If anyone is guilty, it would be the Army of Pakistan.
If anyone has balls to make someone accountable for this indiscriminate proliferation, they should focus on the Army, not AQ Khan.

Justice is not served in this case,

Thanks,
Avkrishna

It is unfortunate to see the accolade/scorn one individual gets for what would have definitely been a tremendous team effort in order to make/procure this bomb.

There is a reason why I still believe Pakistan might have procured (in whatever form) the technology rather than make it. India had a long tradition of Govt. support and sponsors for Nuclear research. There is atleast 3 decades of considerable effort on part of Govt. of Inida, Homi J Bhaba and innumerous other scientists to make the `74 bomb a reality and an equal amount of effort behind `99 explosions...

I haven`t read about a similar infrastructure in Pakistan. It might be my ignorance. But, can someone throw more light on this? When did the quest for Nuclear bomb in Pakistan start? Who are all the people involved? How long did it take?

A Love Affair with Lahore
Posted by avkrishna Nov 30, 2005 01:18 pm
``````
It is no coincidence that Lahore was founded, according to the Deshwa Bhaga, by a man called “Luv”, the son of Raja Ram Chandar, sometimes in the second century AD.
``````

I always thought Lahore was named after Luv, the son of Rama, the mythical incarnation of Vishnu...

Can someone throw light on this assertion by the author?

mohar11 # 61 and ranjit # 47,

I think you got ahmedmadani wrong. The lack of grammar, you have been complaining about, is actually his distinctive interacting style. You will find very few people whose posts are more entertaining than his`.. I would follow GT`s suggestion and look into his old posts..

I consider hamidm as the funniest interactor on this site and now we have him on record saying ahmedmadai is his favourite.. so there is surely something in him,

Tahmed,

That was funny. Though I think it`s tough to beat hamidm in this category ;-)

The intent of this article is in the right spirit, but the depth and breadth of emotions are too shallow.

A tangentially related but unnecessary comparisions towards the end only serve as a distraction and make the emotions more plastic,

# 152,

For a moment I thought, in the process of giving back to some of us who get really nasty (other boards), your general disposition might have changed. (Nothing wrong in retorting to some of them though, unfortunately that`s the only language they understand)

Glad to know that all`s well ;-)

A Wedding in West Mambalam
Posted by avkrishna Nov 17, 2005 02:25 pm
Rajesh,

A beautiful and nostalgic article. This article just reminds me of all the weddings I have attended in old times. With buffet means being the flavour of the day, reading about the old-styled arrangements broght back fond memories,

Thanks for sharing this with us,

Now, this West Mambalam, where exactly is this?

Tahmed,

For a person who takes exception to any misinterpretation from others about your remarks, you are quick to assume something about others` posts and accuse them.

No where did this author or I or others so far have even explicitly or silently condoned/supported casteism. But you start of accusing all of us being casteist (ex post 119) without even apologizing to us after that issue had been made clear..

I dont want any apologies but I would love to hear your take,

Thanks,

P.S: I have observed you being generally cordial over the years. Slightly surprised about the recent aggression, that`s all

# 95,

Thanks for the link and this is sad. In fact, this is one of the reasons I believe certain Hindu centric policies should be official in Indian constitution/laws.

I firmly support extending unconditional offer to all oppressed Hindus world wide to get refuge and rehabilitation in India. Looks like it is happening unofficially, hopefully we make it official,

Re: # 37

DM,

```` I should emphasise that a declared Islamic Republic should not be judged by the same criteria as a state which is proud of its secular credentials````
I might be even more to the right than you on this issue. I dont think Secularism as such is accepted by the majority of Hindus. We dont cherish it as much as we do about our democratic rights. Maybe it`s the practice of this principle which puts me off. Secularism in India had come down to appeasement of minorities and apathy towards the majority. We need to correct that even if that means we have to re visit this aspect of our constitution,
I took offense to the tactics they used and how my religion is demeaned in that process. Not the objective..
Since you have asked me all these questions, let me ask you one...
What is your objection to the Hindu groups using the same tactics and trying to re-convert the people back from Christianity? Your posts seem to indicate that you dont like anyone converting into Hinduism. (correct me if I am wrong),
Thanks,
# 43 and # 44,
So the burden of proof you are asking from me is to point out the websites of missionaries. I am sorry and you might think this is cop out, but I dont intend to prove it that way...
Not only that I don`t have time to spend Googling this now..
The proof I have is the personal (first hand and second hand) experiences I had, while growing up, with some of the Missionaries/Christians who tried to preach their religion to me..
Thanks,
Avkrishna
