... sheikh rashid cannot be accused of trying to speak english .... he has admitted that he is 'urdu-medium' but that he understands 'the chalain of the english medium' ...... also, since he is a single man what he does with whatever his right or left hand rightfully posesses is his business ....... more importantly, he is my garain and has my undivided loyalty ......... however, god forbid, i do not wish for him to be prime minister - he might cut a dashing figure in raja bazaar but i would hate to see him on the white house lawn ..........

... i agree with you that it is better to use an interpreter unless you are fluent in the language ..... most people, unless they have lived in a foreign culture for a long time, still think in their native language and have a hard time with translating their thoughts into english ..... sometimes this can get them into trouble .....

... however, in this case i don't think gilani had any thoughts to translate - the man was like a deer caught in the headlights and almost got run over by the car ...... fool! .... i got the impression that half the time he didn't even understand th question and the more he talked the deeper he got into trouble ......... sherry should have walked up, slapped him and taken over right there and then ....... the coup would have been justified

.... as for the integrity and backbone that urstuly is talking about, the only people in pakistan who have that quality are the honorable working men and women of heera mandi .......

.... it is not the accent, it is the content (or the lack of it) ..... as russell peter hilariously point out, most desis have a horrible accent but they think that it is the other guy and not them ....... we are lucky we can't hear ourselves speak, otherwise most of us would stop trying to speak english .....

..... but it is the content that counts more - this man is an empty vessel and it came across loud and clear .... maybe he should allow sherry rehman to speak for him next time instead of just grabbing her boobs ..... what is a woman like her doing with a man like him? ....

... actually i agree with tahmed and disagree with hamid mir on this - the jihadis must be exterminated because now they want to establish the bloody cult of the arabian moon-god in swat and other parts of pakistan ..... it was fine when they were killing horrible hindoos in the occupied teritories and their ungrateful cousins in the badlands, but now they are killing us! ....however, it is still not a bad idea to buy them a one way ticket to heaven via kashmir - they are stupid enough to buy that .......

.... i also agree with urstruly that the real lotas are the ppp and pml-n ... they are worse than anything we have seen in the declared lotas like sher-i-kashmir sheikh rashid, the pehalwans of gujarat and the bakra of mianwali ....

..... don't get me wrong, i strongly oppose the isi's internal wing which has been trying to manipulate pakistani politicians.,,,,, but as far as it's external duties are concerned, it is a fine outfit that has managed to keep 600,000 indian troops tied down in kashmir and deliver a tat for any tit lobbed across the border by the horible hindoos and ungrateful afghans ...... in some ways it is better than the cia which seems to be clueless at times ......

.... the isi is one of the few things in pakistan that acutlly works and does what it is supposed to do - fight the dirty war with india - it is the first (and maybe last) line of defense ........ it would have been a big mistake to put it under the control of bumbling fools like gilani and his master zardari ....
