qibla hamidm sahib: i tried refreshing your memory earlier on this subject..but it appears you dont have a memory, so there is nothing to refresh.

Mr Masadi: It is always such a relief to see that I am not the only one on chowk who does not come up to your standards.

#116 hamidm: I dont think you realize it, but you have written similar posts a number of times to me. And seem to have not read, or read and were unable to retain in memory, what I said in return. I fear your razor sharp mental agility is becoming somewhat blunted by age... :-(

as for M(ay 12)QM and its supporters - the less said the better!! They can only fool themselves with their propaganda.

vatanparast #106-8: great posts that live up to your nick.

the revolution of the civil society in Pakistan in 2007 had people from all ethnic groups in it - indeed, no one even bothered which "ethnic group" or which "religious sect" a lawyer or a journalist fighting in the streets for justice for every Pakistani belonged to.

#112 most pakistanis outside karachi have barely heard about the MQM, let alone biharis. That is why they dont register in national level politics, only in urban sindh...and on chowk.

in any case - it is stupid and unfair to despise any ethnic group as such. There are decent AND educated people in every community (religious, ethnic, whatever). one can and should, I think, distinguish between a given community of people and criminal groups who seek to play upon the frustrations or misconceptions of the losers to gain political power - as many rogue groups did under military dictators in Pakistan. Vatanprarast below points out to that in #106-8 below).

#101 CheGuevara: I happen to have plenty of people on chowk I enjoy chatting with on chowk in a mutually respectful and friendly manner. I am prepared to discuss any issue, to even end up agreeing to disagree on an issue with these people. I am not however prepared to waste my time merely exchanging insults with strangers or to spend my time trying to "understand" why someone feels the need to attack my character or write personal insults - I simply treat such posts as trash.

#99 rabiawasti: if one sees "unity" as a straitjacket, then i would agree. but "unity" is a liberating concept when combined with the concept of basic rights for the individual. and "unity" is a refreshing concept, not a sickening one, when it is not at the expense of any group - that is why i mentioned below the concept of unity at ALL levels (local, national, regional, global). We are no longer animals fighting for turf - thanks to science, we have the entire solar system within reach. Much better to focus on that.

#97 cb: well said indeed.

we humans are the result of a half-billion years of evolution. and the "tribal instinct" (root cause of racism) is rooted in our animal past. but hopefully, as people mix more, we will see each of us for what we truly are - fellow humans, individuals, with certain basic rights and certain basic responsibilities to society.

#96 CheGuevara: Abuse and character-attacks is a great response when you have nothing rational to respond with. I suggest you take a walk and calm down and think about what I have written. Anger doesnt get you anything but heart attacks.

#94 cliftonbridge: I am glad you say every call for unity (at all levels, I might add - local, national, regional and global) should be applauded. so what do you think caused MQM tails to light up when I applauded farras for his call for unity and to call for the rule of law and basic rights as being in the common interests of ALL Pakistanis?

cb#92 So, you say, aside from racism, violence, and extortion (bhatta) M(ay 12)QM works for Karachi. er..um...OK. You are entitled to your views.

I am glad you have the honesty to point to the above facts. All I did was applaud farras below for his call for unity among all Pakistanis, rather than making MQM-style distinctions on the basis of ethnicity, and to point to MQM's murders of peaceful demonstrators for democracy on May 12. And that set MQM tails on fire, per the hate-posts below.

#81-85 hmmmm...looks like the M(ay 12)QM-ites are not happy with these posts and redflagged them all. Who the hell am I, after all, to applaud those who call for unity among Pakistanis and to point to inconvenient facts about MQM!

hamidm #86 Thanks for your certification of Mr. Madani's wisdom. Do you also issue PhD (Philosophy and English literature) degrees on chowk, or merely provide certifications?

CheGuevara #88 Thanks for reading my inane mediocre crap for 10 years.

PS: While Mr. Madani's ethnicity is obviously important to you since you mention it, it is not to me. So thanks for the info, but I prefer to read what he writes, not what his family tree looks like.

Mr. Madani #84 In addition to its other virtues, I see that Karachi also has learned english language professors like you. The "rest of Pakistan" can only stand in awe of specimen like you of the Herrenvolk of Karachi.
