Bobby & Jerry : Rise of a Coloured ‘son’ Retold
Posted by jang Nov 2, 2007 03:17 pm
"Born on 10 June 1971 to Hindu parents, who had immigrated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana just 6 months earlier, he converted to Catholic faith early in life in the most Catholic state in the whole of USA and changed his name to anglicized ‘Bobby’ from the given name ‘Piyush’ at age four."

can you clarify this sentence a bit..its not about english..the time-line of his conversion apparently is important to this article and this sentence is really confusing to me.

#21 yar tahmed, come to UP, and we can discuss the matter of if i was 6 year old or 16 there, why spoil this board with such moot matters?

hindus in particular should strongly oppose arranges marriage based on their mysthological scriptures. look at all the arranges marriages which Bhishma performed and bad genes which were propagated (story of amba-ambalika etc and gandhari).

#19 yar we are talking about survival of the species here..evolution is at stake. this kinda tinkering is worst than green-house gases. let the prospective mates sniff each other and decode those mysterious pheromones.

#14 ranjit, what parents bring is codified rigid baggage collected over generations. this is what is the big problem. what is necessary is natural mutation occuring out of "irrational" choices and associatd responsibility grown out of that. with arranged marriage the couple only has a partial responsibility ..many are not even financially independent of their parents and procreating.

"The corruption of the gene pool"

you have really hit the nail on its head ...this is so true. if you look at animals, only those who can improve the gene-pool are allowed to procrete..with arranged marriage, a person of poor genetic material gets to procreate even if he-she is not a positive conotributer...it produces corrupt societies (if mate-selection is dishonest..). we should not meddle unduely in the natural (or god-made if you will) mating dance with its mysterious age-old chemical signals.

considering this (dinar)is a good idea, perhaps indians should do it before without waiting for pakistani consensus etc. to build.

Farewell to Shimla

indians and angrez both knew very well how blood-thirsty and lootere the indian society was. just 90 years back there was a complete chaos during the 1857 mutiny when every indian including the british, sikhs, up-bhayyas etc looted a pillaged like savages.

its so sad to see manto trying too blame killings in panjab on congress. primary responsibility of killings in panjab lies with panjabis, that they were unable to build a brotherly society inspite of great seekers like Guru Nanak, its a shame to blame gandhi and mountbatten or radcliffe...radcliff had no clue who panjabis are/were.

anyways, this is how the killings happened. sikh (jatt) farmers and khatris had spread to western panjab and NWFP, especially during ranjit-singhs reign. they were very vulnerable and they knew it. some of them felt so vulnerable that they actually killed their women themselves when they left for india. these guys were harrassed and looted on their journey. once in india, most of these guys had actually gone insane (jinnah failed to provide them with trained counselling) and formed murderous jathas.

so the first sparks were in the NWFP and the fire spread on. nothing to do with gandhi or nehru. so its about inability of the society to build brotherly relations. why did the farmers feel insecure in middle of hospitable pathans and those belonging to the religion meaning peace, so much so that they actually killed their wives and daughters and mothers and sisters?

DM is spot on but if the african is well educated, he is very much welcome. i know at least two couples with an african (does carribean background count?) american grooms. they show up for community events etc and seem very comfortable...sure initially there are some stares but no shunning. muslim is a tougher...hindu kids are explicitly asked not to chase muslim partners..they still do it anyways.
