Pak to test-fire 3500 km long-range missile in June
Friday, 21 May , 2004, 15:03
Pakistan is all set to test-fire on June 3 its new long-range ballistic missile Ghauri-III, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and having a range of 3,500 km covering all major cities in India.
Discuss: Pakistan is asking for trouble!
The missile, which has a range of 3500 kilometres compared to the 2000-km Shaheen missile test fired in March, would be launched from the firing range near Nowshehra into the Arabian Sea, official sources were quoted as saying on Thursday.
Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was informed of the details of the test when he visited the country`s premier nuclear installation Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) on Thursday, English daily The Nation reported.
It said, according to officials the missile could be tentatively test fired on June 3, close on the heels of a new government headed by Manmohan Singh assuming office in India.
Based on liquid fuel, Ghauri-III is a ground-to-ground ballistic missile. If test fired, Ghauri-III would be the second long-range missile developed by the KRL. It had test fired 2500-km range, Shaheen-II in March.

Mama Mia! We just voted!
India is steaming ahead and this change is an attempt to get the people lagging behind up to steam.
As they say full steam ahead - congress/left, BJP/right are the two hands of the country and they are both needed to hear the GREAT CLAP OF THUNDER from India.

{The whiners now have power with all time highest foreign exchange reserves, and the largest job creation process underway in Indian history.
Therefore, their only mission should be ``India Delivers with Honesty``. }
This is the most telling part of it all. Fundementally all right wing govts make the money. the left wingers do the job creation. Thatcher and the tories did it in enGLAND - with labour providing the jobs. Reagan did it with CLinton doing the job creation bit.
Now let us see what the left is made of.....

The dead as temporal says have made their peace (so to speak) in their own with. The living and the perpetrators well sympathies with the victims. Perpetrators -> victims ->perpetrators - well they will go on to the next target and life seems to go on as usual. We will soon forget this and wait for the next epsiode of this eternal circle of damnation.
Who remembers the dead of the last few years? can anyone list the utrocities of the top of their heads - I doubt if there will more than one handful.........

the only solution: ban all public display of religion. Let people pray and do whatever within the confines of their houses/homes. Any public display of religiousity should be made a breach of peace type offense.Well - it was too silent for far too long! What next now?
My Pakistan Diary: The Feudal
Islamabad: A local village body in Pakistan`s Punjab Province recently ordered the rape of two village women, both related to each other by marriage, as retribution for the alleged illicit relations of a landlord`s daughter with the brother of one of the girls.
The incident, which took place in Multan`s Dinga Kabirwala village on April 30, has sent shock waves across the country and through the ruling political establishment.
Even Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has taken strong exception to it, saying that such incidents contravene the basic social tenets of Islam.
Musharraf has directed the Interior Minister, Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, the Punjab Governor and its Chief Minister Chaudhary Pervez Elahi to order an investigation into the incident and to present the report to him.
``When a proper legal system exists in the country then who allows such decisions to prosper that not only destroyed the life of two girls, but has ruined an entire family,`` the Daily Times and Online News quoted Musharraf as saying about the rape of the two women in Dinga Kabirwala village on the orders of a local jury.
According to the local dailies, a landlord with full knowledge and cognizance of the local jury raped a young girl and her sister-in-law on April 30 in Basti Danga Naich, a suburb of Kabirwala.
The order to rape the girls was given after the brother of one them was accused of having illicit relations with the rapist`s daughter.
Muhammad Saeed of Kabeerwala police station told Daily Times that a case had been registered against the alleged rapist and members of the jury. One of the accused has been arrested and the other five are at large.
Police said Ghaffar Jeer and Tajamal Naich of Basti Danga Naich had tried to rape Mumtaz, 16, on previous occasions and been told off by villagers.
On April 30, Ghaffar allegedly sent his daughter Shahina, alias Sanee, to Mumtaz`s house while her brother Muhammad Riaz was inside. Ghaffar reportedly then locked the main door of the house and called the other villagers around, accusing Riaz of having an affair with Shahina.
Ghaffar then arranged for a panchayat of 50 people in his house. The jury, headed by Haji Muhammad Sultan, Haji Afzal Jeer and Ahmad Nawaz called Mumtaz and Riaz`s sister-in-law Mudasan and ordered Ghaffar to rape them. Ghaffar allegedly took them to an outhouse and raped them.
Kabeerwala police registered a case against Ghaffar Jeer, Zahoor Jeer, Bashir, Haji Tajamal, Amir Nawaz and Haji Sultan on the complaint of Mumtaz`s father Muhammad Nawaz.
Meanwhile, a human rights committee led by lawyer Sikandar Javed has visited the village and assured free legal aid to the victims. ANI

The point is here is a women who is doing her work outside of pakistan. The art and creativity she is showing should have been born in Pakistan and borne by it and be attributed to it and be internalised by pakistan. Unfortunate is not that this has not happened - creative people are the need of the hour not technocrats. Creative arts make us more civilised. 50% of civilisation is made by these people the other 50% by the technicians - religion has no role to play in the creation of civilisation religion is an after thought to reinforce laws. (a bait here surely for the usual suspects - but no it is not).
No point in being touchy here. Points are not being scored nor is there any intention to score one from here.

temporal#14 - you seem to be missing the point again. If you read through FMK`s borad and some others (before that going back a few years) it is interesting to see that more and more people from pakistan (esp the artistic types) are going outside for their art and creativity to flourish. Outside is not only India (and that where you seem to be missing the pt).The point is here is a women who is doing her work outside of pakistan. Ras. Thanx for the review. However, the point to be noted is that Sahiba Sumar - lives in Delhi. That she did this work from India and not pakistan is very telling. I wonder what would have happened if Sulakshna Abbas George tried to do the same from Lahore. Pause for a moment to savour the rich irony of it all.

Well - After Adnan Sami and a host of other now Welcome sahiba to the world.
on the dos-mittar board here is what was said said:

Ch. Rehmat Ali died in exile.
Suhrawardy died in exile.
Jogendra Mandal exiled himself to India and died there.
Liaqat Ali Khan was assassinated before he could be exiled.
According to Yasser, Mohammad Ali Jinnah wanted to live out his life in Simla and Bombay.
Even Quarratulain Hyder lives in exile in India.
}end_quote
now we here that after the actors (from the 70s), to adnan sami and now sahiba work from India. I guess the melting pot called India seems to be calling them and poulling them away from the puritans!
I for one am surprised at this turn of events! Are you not surprised? If not why are you not surprised? As ajournalist you must have studied this change. Your perspective would be valuable here (no weasle words and wriggling out here please)
