Bapsi Sidhwa: From The Pakistani Bride to Earth
Posted by lkaz Jan 16, 2004 03:08 pm
Thanks. I think Cracking India is Sidhwa`s best novel. As the article mentions, we`ll probably see a short story collection next by her. One thing I didn`t mention in the article is that Ms Sidhwa said that when The Crow Eaters first came out, it sparked a lot of anger towards her from the Parsi community even by those who hadn`t actually read the book. People were offended by the title and just weren`t happy that Sidhwa had written about Parsis. Since then of course, opinions have changed. As a wonderful writer, today hopefully she is a source of pride for the Parsis as well as for all Pakistanis and Indians.

Mehreen Jabbar

Thanks for your message! It is really great to see works of independent filmmakers from Pakistan who are making films and plays on very interesting topics even with the lack of technical facilitites. Hopefully, filmmakers like Mehreen Jabbar will attract some local and international attention and encourage investment to help artists who are trying to convey their message in a creative style and in turn improving Pakistan`s art film scene.

Film, after all, is a powerful medium and can be an important tool for bringing togethor communities.

Ashfaqahmad sahib, you`ve raised an good point. I think journalists have a very tough job regardless of the country in which they work. And especially so when trying to unearth truths about controversial situations. Thanks...

Thank you everyone for your comments. I am a big admirer of Razia Bhatti. The book containing the collection of her editorials is one of my treasured possessions.

It`s nice to hear from some of the people who knew or worked with Razia Bhatti. Soon, I hope to write about her in much more detail, therefore, I would love to get in contact with more people who knew her.

Shahid, sigalph235, ashfagahmad, and nazarhayatkhan please write to me at info@jazbah.org if you don`t mind me asking you some questions about Razia Bhatti. I would be grateful.

Thanks,

Laila
