The Princess and the Alley Cats
Arjun,
1. Are you personally friends with any Pakistanis?
2. This constructed narrative should be viewed in light of South Asian representation on British television. Are Indians part of a greater minority that is not represented adequately based on their racial, or religious identities? I know you like to pretend that you are not associated with South Asians who are Pakistani, but no one asked you. This is about desis in the uk. Is the Shetty issue in any way related to larger issues of representation?

The trio are the epitome of `white trash` with limited vocabulary and poor education. Racism and victimisation of others is the only way of raising their self esteem...``
was too rich to pass up. The term ``white trash`` is as offensive as ``paki``,``dot head``, ``nigger``, ``sand nigger``, ``kaffir``, ``cracker``, etc. While the racism of the those characters is distressing, it shows the reality of our class and race system.
The turnaround of those two characters was not based I suspect, on soul searching, but probably a conference with the producers of the show who let the cast know what was happening. As the two white characters had more to lose financially and professionally, they were motivated towards damage control of their business losses.
What is hilarious to me is that there seem to be two camps of reaction among Indian :interactors. The first camp is the: ``Who Cares? Camp``; the main jist of their responses being Shetty is successful enough and this show is irrelevant because Shetty remains largely untouched professionally by the racism performed by the Anglo characters. This allows the camp not to have to think about racism too much as it pertains to real people or even in the rarified air of show biz.
The second camp does acknowledge racism which is good. But then some of this group turns around and uses racist terminology to characterise the racists!

I cant believe I`m agreeing with Kulharee, but the irony of the passage,``...The trio are the epitome of `white trash` with limited vocabulary and poor education.

Timely idea-this needs to be revised for over informality, organization, rhetorical support.

Paragraph five is confusing; several contradictory statements are made in the same breath. This paragraph needs to be broken down into at least three separate paragraphs that discuss and support the main topic points, counter points and counter counter points. Timely idea-this needs to be revised for over informality, organization, rhetorical support.

tahmed,
my point is that for the infintesimal (sp?) number of legitimate suspects that are actually rightfully id`ed, three entire races have been tarred with suspicion-the performance of that suspicion takes place in thousands of airports everyday on an ongoing basis.
What are the costs of that?

do we have conclusive proof that profiling works? for example, the us industrial prison complex is filled with brown and black men. thanks to dna technology, we are finding that several are not guilty of the crimes for which they were sentenced and imprisoned. Many critics in the US contend that their ``crime`` was being of color and male.
there is something wrong in basic, ethical principle to target brown and black people of arab or s asian descent in airports and on subways-it is a form of racism that speaks more loudly than any justification.

We need a national study to measure the psychic effects of airline profiling. A few people`s empirical feedback cannot be taken as totality.

Atif,
I do think its worth discussing what it means when people of color are paid to be suspicious of people of Arab/South Asian Muslim descent. This is another phenomena after the Model Minority Myth in which Asians and South Asians were considered the ``good`` minorities whereas Black and Latino citizens were considered low income, etc. Post 9/11 has added another layer, another stereotype, another performance of constructing and signifying what ``terrorism`` in on the bodies of South Asian and Arab men. (and some women)
