it is a riot-this article.so National Formula Pharma is offering remedies.what is the remedy for being” not sensible”?when people are in the “sensible” mode, they are clear that all forms of suicide are wrong.trouble is that those who blow themselves up do not think that is suicide.so when the sensible get confused and cannot distinguish between “hara kiri, kame kaze, self immolation, self sacrifice and simply putting to sleep”, they must just run back to their stand-point-which says suicide is wrong.if they do not do that they will get paranoid and even withdraw from reality.

i checked it out afterwards,"scanning" a number of talk shows ,and found you were right.there is a definite change in the trend of the talkshows, recently, and it is definitely lopsided and monopolistic.as if they are saying if you dont like the local flavor of the talk, go switch to international TV channels and hear the range of opinions you want.

no,no,no! we must have sensible men and women at all cost. let them blame, it is only a vent under cover. they themselves are threatened by others' s blame. we must keep our viewpoint sensible. it prevents mass hysteria.

some focus needed.interesting terms more clarity wanted."long winded scholar talkers" on the tv screens-why are they long winded?who do they have to please, why ?are they trying to make their point in the lobby of people who might call them not modern. are they guilty of enjoying the fruits of modernism namely their jobs on the most modern media watched by a comparing international viewership?what is an aggressive apologist stance.and what direction does the aggressiveness take.

Olympic Dreamers
Such big dream dreamers, and when something goes wrong, then nightmares. What no mention of Freud, and the couch, when there is so much talk of psyche and the dreams? To the variety of patients frequenting the psychotherapists clinics I see now, the competitive players! With the olympics attracting focus of attention, i was into thinking of the sport psychologist being with the team of competitive players, along with his colleagues the sport doctor and coach!.So not to forget the psychotherapist’ s clinic is the place where his clients come to him, at least when they come back from China, that is the olympic China.Such an increasing variety of patients. One feels such a variety of patients ought to have the right to choose their own psychotherapists, chiefly from the point of view of the psychotherapeutic approach which would suit them.I remember the case of a girl, who was dreading (suicidal; imagine if one attempts to commit suicide just to avoid a visit to of all the folk, the psychotherapist!!!!) a visit to the psychotherapist. The family liked him, he believed in dynamic therapy. The (educated)girl just wanted someone who would help her sort out her feelings and thoughts. With her family it was just that they would not listen to what she had to say, they had no time for her.Their lifestyle was busy, she had no solitude, no time to think things out.Besides being a large family, there was not much privacy around especially in bedrooms.Reckon girl athletes would want to exercise more choice!.I know of a number of people who like the old fashioned couch therapy.
Eclectic clinics would be, i feel the ideal answer. The other day i came across this,”Silver medallists at the olympics seem to perform what psychologists call an upward counterfactual-they compare themselves against someone better off than them.Bronze medallists seem to perform downward counterfactuals-they tend to compare themselves with people who did worse.)So since anxiety belongs to almost everybody, such a clinic would do well to rent out a floor to deep relaxation teknics-aroma therapy, color therapy, soothing sound and “quiet therapy”.Even hypnotherapy. And all the therapies that go round the main principle of “meditation”.A beauty clinc, which makes a person look good, with a nice make-up and a becoming hairstyle-add to the effectiveness of psychotherapy, I feel. And maybe-a room for a “playout”(to remove anxiety from a workout??).

I found this quite amusing;"rather than calling it a play they call it a ‘workout’.Also you wrote ‘’I have met a number of competitive players in my practice, who, either become anorexic, got addicted to drugs or experienced family breakdowns as they could not keep a balance between their personal, professional and family lives.’’Such big dream dreamers, and when something goes wrong, then nightmares. With her family it was just that they would not listen to what she had to say, they had no time for her.Their lifestyle was busy, she had no solitude, no time to think things out.Besides being a large family, there was not much privacy around especially in bedrooms.Reckon girl athletes would want to exercise more choice!.I know of a number of people who like the old fashioned couch therapy.

on the top we have HEC and its encouragement for research, at the bottom we have the school dropouts.valuing human resource ought to be done from the bottom level.the government’s chief role ought to be to see that schools form their own groups who concentrate on drop-out issues.if the reason is financial, or non-availability of transport, textbooks, uniforms, and so on,the government and the school groups should work together and help the affected school children.
then these school groups, especially in the public SECTOR schools should keep student’ s perfrormance always in the forefront of their agenda.they must see which students are WILLING to study, this is a most important criterion.next a range must be established, in which they should start out from an average student who has never failed, to good students and finally excellent students.these students should NEVER be lost sight of.they should be made to perform from good to better and sky is the limit.they should be helped out financially.scholarships must be easily available, but only for the excellent students-if more and more students are encouraged to get distinctions in their papers, they all should get scholarships.the National internship program is good, and students from pre-matric section must be included, trained and given stipend.later they could be selected as paid research workers for any of hec research activities or projects.boosters at Ba, Ma, BSc and M.phil levels must be provided, till these students reach PhD level safely.Medical education should be given a separate and special fillip.URDU medium good students ought to be given the opportunity to study comprehensive english, through a free course, and they should be given the opportunity equally to their english lingo counterparts.
needless to say the school groups should keep in view the schoolmasters, who have put in a long servis, are devoted, teach well, the students love them and love to attend their classes, the students understand their lectures and easily remember them.these teachers are broadminded, they encourage students to read other books as well, browse the internet for knowledge, and do not fly into a rage when the student tries to explain the lesson in his own words.such teachers must be honored, celeberated, rewarded and decorated at national level.they should be given paid leave and opportunity to complete their Ma or phd even.their retirement plans should be solid, and they should retire with a handsomepension.they must be given bonuses, health insurance and lots of endowments.during their servis they should be given lots of opportunities to join as a senior research worker in hec’ s any ongoing research projects.

the psycho-social makeup of society is very much disturbed, especially in the rural areas.in the urban areas things are not going that well either.people are politically confused, they are disappointed and frustration seems to be closing upon the whole populace.all the more reason why the urbans would set their own house in order as far as education is concerned.on the top we have HEC and its encouragement for research, at the bottom we have the school dropouts.valuing human resource ought to be done from the bottom level.the government’s chief role ought to be to see that schools form their own groups who concentrate on drop-out issues.if the reason is financial, or non-availability of transport, textbooks, uniforms, and so on,the government and the school groups should work together and help the affected school children.

The Wrong Mix
Wealth has a habit since time immemorial, to buy talent to please itself. In so doing the talented has to conform to the demands and conditions provided by the wealthy, to work in.Not all artistes can conform to this rigidity and there are exceptions. Then comes the question of the posthumous phenomenon.when the rejected artist, thrown out, or even ‘’offed with his head’’, by the offended provider, after his death achieves a resounding and scintillating fame that livens up the galleries and museums till eternity. This fact, has rubbed off on the collective conscious of the peoples, nations and families of both the volatile artistes and their wealthy employers who sacked and rejected them at whim;and themselves are lying forgotten in ignominy, while the art/ists/istes achieve everlasting fame-immortalized.All this resulting in your term;’’clever economics’’.Now the art/ist/iste is indulged by those who patronise his work. The one who indulges gets two benefits i think. One, the creative genius’ work and the common man’s adoration for being such a generous supporter of the cause of art and their ideal artist/iste.If the artist/iste is a firebrand, gregarious personality the bigger the cycle of popularity. As the hypocritical attitudes of the members of the society are lashed out against; the poor folk can identify with the oppressed who are the victims of such hypocrites, and they cannot feel alone.
Now your question”,{...}” ‘’Was it actually capitalism getting hold of it to knock it out of its poverty embracing idealism?’’ my answer is that obviously, definitely seems to be the case.
Yes,where are these eccentric, creative people now?they are all over the world.Today’ s world accepts their entity more. They are wanted, they are followed and they are better understood. They need not belong to a small piece of land which may be the poor intellectual’ s utopia, the place where bohemians live. They may be scattered and the whole world belongs to them.

Honestly why do so many -isms need the vehicle of socialism?i am forced to think that owing to the current status of political scenario and the existing peoples complexion of poverty and need which may obstruct the simple delivery of basic necessities. owing to the reigning -ism and its tussle with the -isms of the oppositional slant.then emerge the groups who are ready to give help to the people any -ism they maybe colours their social theme because these people are active socially and can actually reach the people. here i would like to mention another -ism which i feel has an erratic influence.I would not have got it from history textbooks. At least not with the easy read and pleasure of registering through an interesting article.Even if the textbooks carried a commentary on the subject.Am referring to the article ‘’Trouble in .....’’in Dawn Sun 8 Jun 08.So Bohemian culture did change ,alas.Got to see the new strains that developed, under the magnifying analysis of nfp.But no one can match the classic bohemian spirit et al.You wrote, ‘’those creative, eccentric and idealistic people who were ready to hit the depths of economic depravity and face establishmentarian and general social scorn for wwhat they believed in”. The first bohemians were the true bohemians,I say!!Wealth has a habit since time immemorial, to buy talent to please itself.

Institutions for Mental Health ought to be Empowered to receive those cases that turn up all on their own.It may be that the abnormally behaving person, who is dreadfully frightened too, maybe someone who is terribly mentally upset. He may have been chased all the way, from the roads, herded and "shoo-ed"into the Mental Health precincts .Just because he is alone, does not mean that he would be physically thrown out into the streets.I did say EMPOWERED.
The institution would relieve his fright and anxiety ,treat him, keep him, diagnose him, rehabilitate him and place him in good care. The other type of mentally challenged person, coming to the MH institution, is the one brought by someone, who is a complete stranger to him.The EMPOWERED Authority should accept the mentally upset individual for care and treatment and make things as smooth as possible for the person who brought him.If you are that 'paranoid' about the person, who you might fancy to be an 'abandon-er'.Then get his moniker photographed, his thumbprint taken, get the equipment installed which compares the prints with NADRA id cards.Get all his bio-data, verify them, get all Biometrics to surround him like an MRI machine .But let him go ASAP without harrassing him.
The third type of a person who can arrive alone at a MH reception center is the intellectual, and educated one.The one who is stressed out, mentally upset ,thinks his 'neurotic' s/are going too far, and he needs a psychoanalyst.Such people frequently do consult at and visit MH institution without hitch and are not ashamed of it.If they come in the middle of the night extremely panicky, looking "incoherent", that is no reason for you to turn them down.If you turn down such a literate case then I would say you have been empoWERED for nothing.Remember such cases might seek legal cover because they are handling court cases, property matters, family financial matters.
Another type of a case who can turn up alone in any part of the institution , is one who may have been earlier discharged from it.Maybe the psychotherapists who used to treat him have left for their private practice or for abroad.Maybe some of the staff may still remember him, but is on some other duty shift or vacation .Treat the loner, as a patient, treat him as a human bein' who has given you the honor of being chosen to help him in his time of need.Treat him with dignity. It is your job.I would recommend tailor made course on humanistic psychotherapy for the entire staff of a MH unit, before they start their professional work.

You have interviewed a great many immigrants and it seems the main suffering of men is that of guilt. The women and girls mostly bear the brunt of violence.Just wouldn’ t help comparing the picture to here-Pakistan.Particularly because you have strongly suggested professional help to be sought by these victims.Putting men’ s honor and women’ sexuality to the issue of a patient’ s needs, whether the patient be a man or a woman-frankly raises one’ s hackles. Of course the patient is adequately covered by lack of inhibition resulting from all that pain and despair.but this perspective gets blown up out of proportion by people belonging to the human (without the letter e in the end) species who happen to be his friends, family, acquaintances. Also it is a matter of shame, that the professional workers of our mental health institutions play to the gallery…and put the patient to disadvantage and his near ones to the eminent position of honor for the men in the family and matters of sexuality for the women at the same time.Institutions for Mental Health ought to be Empowered to receive those cases that turn up all on their own.It may be that the abnormally behaving person, who is dreadfully frightened too, maybe someone who is terribly mentally upset. He may have been chased all the way, from the roads, herded and "shoo-ed"into the Mental Health precincts .Just because he is alone, does not mean that he would be physically thrown out into the streets.I did say EMPOWERED.

It was before HEC came into existence, that I had to go to KU for some work concerning someone very dear to me.Near the inside, of one of the gates, where I was waiting, I overheard some university students talking. They were lamenting the fact that the atmosphere for research at the university was poor, wanting, and not at all supportive. For many of the professors they had dissappointment to show. They were praying for PhDs in each and every department of the university, at least one in each department. Now there is HEC.PhDs are being churned out, checks and balances of quality are being exercised. There are still many departments of many Pakistani universities without a single PhD, but the dream has begun, and its turning into reality is quite possible.Having said that, lets, what the heck, support HEC.At least encourage it to provide and place at least one PhD Professor in each department of all the universities of Pakistan; where he would be able to be a good guide and mentor to his research scholars, drawing upon his own research experience.HEC must not form just a favorite nexus lumped with PhDs;doing elaborate research work on predetermined favorite topics, which feed international quest but not indigenous quest, but anyhow draw heavily on indigenous information. They consume billions of dollars and make our universities look like research outsourcing for international research study LABS.

that” man is nothing but a tool of the political economy of life and history”.Is that the reason why-a)Scholars cannot choose the topic of research they would like to do? b)highly qualified fresh graduates do not fit into jobs relevant to their qualifications.c)independent candidates do not get to freely contest in elections. It is high time that the government in power and all the political parties would stop using people as tools
and start providing tools to the people;so that a person can make his good better and his better superlative

mental health,on the negative side is often associated with unmanageable dirt, filth and squalor.state-of-the-art hospitals catering for geeneral health too are degraded to a humiliating low, the day the sweeper, does nt turn up.the sweepers belong to the most neglected class of workers, overworked and underpaid, by the metropolitan administration.there are some welfare bodies like edhi s which is most dependable in pakistan, who aare particular about matters of community health and hygiene.they maintain several homes among which there is one for destitute women.most of them are aged, and abandoned and suffering from depression.as far as i remember through news dailies reports, and interview of bilkis edhi herself, that they make sure that the homes, re thoroughly clean, spic and span and neat daily without fail, especially the toilets.Repeat toilets. And there is no shortage of menial staff for this particular work. What iwant to point out now, is that if Mental health accomodation is procured all over the city, in convenient community focalized areas, so that a ''house'' would cater to the needs of a local community , it would be a welcome convenience.Keep it simple otta be the motto. The community could be sole in charge of maintaining without shortage the daily cleaning chores of the ''house,''like Edhi. There could be spacious floors, and rooms, all with ''modular''facilities to adjust the size of available space. The furbishing could be bare essentials. The patient's families if they so desire could bring their own furniture and AC's too. What the higher administration could do would be to ensure adequate number of well trained "psychotherapist support staff"and available "psychotherapy" specialists and consultants, to provide care for the admitted patients. For humanities sake we want a peaceful and respectful atmosphere to treat our mentally ill, right close to our neighborhoods, which make up our one and only city. The cityhas its limits. We are asking something wthin limits!

evolutionary struggle- a fascinating term. as we know what evolution is, why would evolutionary be viewed and acknowledged in the past only?evolutionary changes take place anyway even without conscious struggle.and this changing process results in stages which can be identified-a sure prognostic view! your description of the classes which influence socio-political change, is accurate and interesting and helps one to get such a view. things should grow better towards a higher state of development, ought they not? that s evolution!

people who do not even spare the sad occasion of death, and say unkind things, do not want to just hurt.they want to ensure that they unlike the sensitive folk, will not bend even a sliver from their rigid outlook;sothat they may not speak forgivingly about the deceased.which quality (forgiveness) an occasion of death is known to provide to many normal thinking people, even if they had differences before.such people want to shock others, more than anything else.there is something much more wrong with these people than simply wanting to hurt and be unkind.evolutionary struggle- a fascinating term. as we know what evolution is, why would evolutionary be viewed and acknowledged in the past only?evolutionary changes take place anyway even without conscious struggle.and this changing process results in stages which can be identified-a sure prognostic view! your description of the classes which influence socio-political change, is accurate and interesting and helps one to get such a view. things should grow better towards a higher state of development, ought they not? that s evolution!

give them a chance.everybody by proclaiming jfk and liakat ali khan' s shrouded in mystery events, and stamping and sealing the results of this depression causing morbid assasination as sharing the fate of the former two. might just make us miss something of a clue even now.let modern scientific technology fill in the blanks even now, and do not let them label the 'hosing' scenario as a 3 wash-that is a washout, a hogwash or a eyewash.thank you pervez for benny's biography.besides did the lone taxi driver say ''deri ho gaya''.? listing 1-16
