"but their facilitators may well have been agency people"

yes. I'm not interested in "who pulled the trigger" but rather "who supplied the gun". Cause if you stop the gun supplier, there's no trigger to pull.

okay, with that, I gotta go.

just read this article on the guardian website. Well written, enjoyed it. Although I don't know if Lady Liberty would like to be depicted as the damsel, the shemale or the male in this tale of unrequited love...

Aqil,

a rambling angry article. Would have done better if it were focused.

A point to consider: perhaps the Mariott bombing was not the "religious fanatics" ?

Yes, religious fanaticism should be curbed, if that alim online dude did what you described, the govt should start a criminal investigation against him...I'm wary of all these tele-evangilists anyway

Junaid,

well written piece. Didn't you run Left Hook for a while (as Junaid Alam)?

HP guru,

now you've started pointing fingers too? We don't know if Aafia is indeed a dahshatgard!

Yes things start somewhere...you can go back as far as you want on this. The new wave started with Zia.

HP

let's separate the "mullah" problem from the heavily armed fundoo extremists, shall we?

as despicable as JI was, it can not match the ferocity of the new extremists.

BTW, wasn't MQM created (by the army) to rob JI of it's power

"i was hoping someone on chowk might have something insightful to say about that."

on chowk? :)

and the marriot thing was too big for the normal fundoo extremists...the money was previously from the army, last time I talked to someone in the know...I'm assuming this is still the case.

Clifton, Salim,

let's continue with the intellectual debate and leave personal comments out of it, for now :)

Clifton,

take out the support of the extremists, remove the funding, and how do you think they will survive?

Clifton,

I must disagree, with all civility ;)

Yes extremism is always there, however, Zia CREATED this mess that we're dealing with. He organized them, armed them, and fueled them with an ideology...

rf786,

my mistake, I had your comments of "splitting pakistan into 3 parts" in my head when I read your interactions today and that may have colored my perception.

sorry, let's continue on the current path.

"The same cannot be said for the self-righteous brothers and sisters who will kill without mercy for they kill in the name of god."

I agree.

pinku,

thanks for your considered response. Would you suggest some reading material? I will look into your assertions with an open mind.

And perhaps we can get back to the topic at hand?
