The Snow Will Melt
Posted by Faisal.K Jan 15, 2008 11:54 am
In criticizing Tahir for this moving piece. We are all forgetting that some of the people who died in that cockpit were his friends. I have visited the northern areas on occasion and flown to shangrila as well in a thrill ride of a plane flight. True i have never heard this story either... but that does not mean it cannot be true. Can we all just be a little more sensitive here??? Or should we always have to indulge in name calling and obscenities to get our point across!!

Please open yr minds...

Charlie Wilson\'s War Stretches the Imagination

The movie turned a little hollow when they started showing Charlie willing to help the afghans only because of his humane side. The whole world knows that American policy in this specific was as it is in others is purely motivated by their own self interest. Nothing humane about strategic planning.

Good acting by Tom Hanks and the others...but a bit frivolous

First of all Laddu, its not just yr public places they belong to all of us. Secondly what will being scared of him do. people like him have already taken away our very sense of security by the fear that the generate. I have neither fear nor respect for them. For me they represent nothing but the collective fears of all of us.. in the shape of the ultimate bogey man.. tearing them down a little takes away some of that fear.

Revolutionary for Sale

There are two sides to every story. It is that simple. In Pakistan today and over the last year, there have been activists who are really sincere in the causes they wish to campaign for. There have also been numerous others who just join them to catch a little limelight reflected of them. Or to appear rebellious in our society. There are numerous student organizations and groups being set up to bring about change. I speak of some of the people among these.. who think a trip to the press club washes away the millions they have exploited in the same tenure of government they are "fighting against" give me a break!! It is the same mind process as wearing a t shirt with Che on it... and thinking yeh im kool cuz i support him. However as the author pointed out...the wearer does not have the slightest clue as to what Che stood for.

Excellent point Jehanzeb you have hit the nail right on its head. This is what i term th "Bandwagon Phsyce" it is also in its most vivid example on display today in Pakistan, where everyone and their garden hose have joined up to lead rallies and hold vigils for people they do not even acknowledge or care about in their daily lives. Anyone who tries to resist them is termed a cronie.

Great Article Dr Sohail. However i find that the issues you are addressing in immigrants to Canada and other western countries from Pakistan, have more to do with them over compensating their guilt at having left their homeland then to the actual pervasiveness of their thought or religion. thus you hear of things like people bringing their daughters to Pakistan and forcibly marrying and leaving them back here. You should check out the societal conditions prevalent in Pakistan today though, i think u would be in for a shock! No more do women answer to men, they are increasingly becoming independent with education and employment. Most of the teenagers today make the choice of who to marry on their own as well. I am speaking of the larger demographic here. Change has come...and i for one welcome it.

Pakistan After The Assassination: Interview with Pervez Hoodbhoy

Quite disturbing to read that one of our greatest minds is now indulging in fear mongering on a vast scale. I am not saying what he has mentioned could not come about, but he speaks as if he is aware of so many inside secrets that he can lend credence to his accusations. Disturbing!

Interesting article. However i beg to differ, as long as there are patriots alive in this country (and there are) Pakistan will neither die nor be separated. The Sindhu Desh ppl keep talking bout, any idea what benefits it would provide to the Hari class.. which is about 75% of Sindhis??? working their lives away for their waderas? right.. jack diddly squat. Perhaps the Waderas want a divided Pakistan so they can do whatever the hell they please without the slightest impunity. However the common Sindhi only wants his freedom from Fuedality.

I really do not have words to express the sorrow i have felt at reading yr tribute. They say, if you miss them a lot some part of yr soul touches the ones that have passed on from this life and brings them happiness somehow. I have no doubt that your Rizwan is smiling in heaven right now at the courage his spouse possesses, at the path he made her choose even in his absence and at the beauty of their love which is eternal.

Gluck with whatever life brings your way
