Dr Afia Siddiqui\'s Case
[[as the prophet said "Educate yourself by going to China if necessary".]]
Well said tahmed. and I agree with hamidm sahib on this too; this is the only solution for this menace. The level of appeasement and 'political correctness' has gone out of the way in the west to 'accommodate' the sensitivities of these morons and a complete u-tern on that is immediately required. Same goes for the 'tribals' in Pakistan. All through Pakistani history, they have been allowed to have their own "freedom" within the constitution; they are a "part of Pakistan, yet not" ... at the same time! This simply is unsustainable unless we grant them complete "independence"! No half-hearted measures .... this nuissance needs to be eliminated with a great deal of urgency for the whole country to move forward. No apologies, no pre-conditions, no settlements ...swift "justice" that they so seem to crave!
We need another Hafiz Asad in the Islamic world!

the "re-interpretation" of religious text/scripture has nothing whatsoever to do with the text/scripture itself .... it is more to do with OUR OWN "cntemporary" sensitivities ...... God's word is infallible/unchangeable and written in "black & white" FOR ALL TIMES and there is (cannot be) any ambiguity about it
one example is (purely hypothetical) homosexuality .... God doesn't change His mind about how he feels from time to time! He is (supposed to be) beyond the confines of time .... it is our contemporary sensitivities and conveniences that urge us to "re-interpret" .... jewish/christian/muslim alike!
will be back properly in a couple of weeks to discuss this in more detail if you are interested

[[At least, my belief is that one learns from religion what one’s temperament wants to learn or one’s education allows one to learn. All religions are mired in contradictions and paradoxes. That is the nature of it. Why? It is long discussion.]]
if I had a dollar for the number of times I have heard this silly argument .... something "given" to us by an infallible god is either "all correct" or it is not ... simply NO TWO WAYS about it!
It either makes sense or it does not .... the rest is just an apologist's back-footed defence of the indefensible!! which is what you are quin sir .... AN APOLOGIST FOR YOUR confused, self-contradictory and divisive argument of a faith!
take care ..... for now

I am beginning to come around fast to your point of view ... I think it has enough merit to be discussed with a level of openness that we extend towards our female counterparts from time to time

How real is your politik?
khariyat? baal bachay? raazi baazi?
amm'a ba'ad ...
[[And a happy Ramazan to all of you folks! and for those who don't want its happiness, a happy Monday to you instead! ]]
please explain to me a couple of things if you can.
what is so "pleasing" or happy about a month where one has to forfeit all worldly pleasures for God? some here tell me (Islamists in fact) that it is NOT necessary
why is it that the ours is the only religious/cultural tradition I know that starts its year with ten days of mourning?
I'd be interested in your opinion on this.
Thanks in advance.

may I suggest Russel's "why I am not a christian" or some of the stuff Antony Lowenstein talks about .... and I am pretty certain their basic morality and other such concepts still had deep roots within their respective Christian or Jewish heritage ... they still had/have the "need" to write, did they not?
in fact during the 19th and 20th century, there was a "literary outburst" of epidemic proportions by "heretic" writers ... and I am sure they all still celebrated Christmas and Easter (or Hannukka) with their families!!
... in fact, majority of groundwork in the Zionist movement around the world has been done by the so-called "non-religious/atheistic jews"! that list includes Mr Ben-Gurion ... the first PM of the State of Israel ... may be you should read up on this "conflict" too before getting carried away!
unless I misunderstood your question to Murad Beg completely?
have to go but will talk again no doubt

... besides, there is nothing special about catholic/C of E or similar educational institutions ... when I was shool going age, religious schools weren't necessarily the best in our locality (Glasgow) ... so I went to an ordinary state school which was really good ... later I changed schools several times, due to my father's job; some were state some private (including places in Manchester, Leicester and subsequently Pakistan ... the Pakistani stint was only a couple of years before college/uni) ... problem I was highlighting was that in Pakistani society, schools would automatically be rated as "high class" by parents BECAUSE of such affiliations ... and that I regard a sign of an inferiority complex (not to mention a colonial legacy)within a society and not progress
Khuda Hafiz for now sir .. will talk soon

speaking for myself, I am actually IN FAVOUR of this system ... I'd only like MORE of such institutions in Pakistan , NOT LESS!
the only thing I'd like is for these schools to be within easy reach of most if not all Pakistani children ... also, I'd like there to be an atmosphere of inclusion within Pakistani society at large to actually accommodate and continue to stimulate these minds ... so they don't have to look at models from across the seas to fulfil their potentials as intelligent and well qualified individuals
I reckon there is a big difference in what I am saying and what someone else may be saying here! I hope it clarifies
