Pak-Millennium Conference 1999

The Pak Millennium Conference Committee is pleased to announce the Pak
Millennium Conference 1999. The Conference will be held on Saturday, October
9th, 1999 at the Rafiq Hariri Building (595 Commonwealth Ave.) in Boston, Massachusetts.

This is the first of the series of five annual conferences.
The purpose of
this conferences is to bring together our youth studying in the U.S.,
business leaders with ties to Pakistan from Corporate America, business
leaders from Pakistan, and the Government of Pakistan. The conference
participants are envisaged to be Pakistani and Pakistani-American students,
our professionals in North America, technology companies, and
non-Pakistanis interested in our country. The event is designed to mobilize
our youth studying in the U.S. Specialists from the academia, corporate
sector, international organizations, and the U.S. and Pakistani Governments
are invited to speak and make presentations during the Conference.

This meeting is a comprehensive, first-of-its-kind forum that will bring
together the top business leaders from Pakistan and the United States to
exchange ideas, explore possibilities of joint ventures and investments.
The conference will consist of four panels: Information Technology, Health,
Infrastructure Development and The Role Of The Expatriates. Each panel
discussion will provide a wealth of insights into how business can be
improved, made more lucrative and socially gainful if boundaries are
crossed. In order to build and sustain partnerships in our global society
we need new corporate strategies to facilitate common agendas. We hope to
have productive sessions, stimulating dialogue and fruitful interaction
that will lead to tangible results. The long-term goal of this unique
networking opportunity is to bring investments into Pakistan and, thereby,
stimulate economic growth and employment in the next millennium.

In addition to serving as a platform for generating corporate initiatives,
the conference will address the complex balance of ethics with competitive,
bottom-line concerns, and evolving relationships that extend corporate
social relationships beyond traditional organizational boundaries. A major
challenge for a transnational corporation can involve balancing corporate
obligations with local community investment in the host country. It is
critical that such issues be addressed in an open forum. We would like this
to be a great opportunity for all the speakers, thinkers and students to
present their thoughts, so that a better Pakistan can be realized in the
near future.

For additional details please go to the conference web-site.

Chowk will provide a coverage of the conference. Chowkwallas are encouraged to submit their questions and comments in the replies section of this article. These will be forwarded to the speakers and their responses will be posted as they become available. The text of the speeches will placed on Chowk as soon as they are provided by the conference delegates.
