Doctor Last Hope!

Rauf Niazi October 17, 1999

Human hope shapes into dreams, but dreams rarely take the shape of reality, But to still keep on dreaming, is only, but human

I dreamt last night and 'to dream' is one freedom, that cannot be suppressed or taken away. Wishes and hopes transform into dreams, and sometimes dreams into reality and this very hope of transformation, is what keeps the 'HOPE'
alive.

I dreamt that a very sick patient was brought to the Hospital emergency, the poor chap barely breathing, ashen pale with gaping wounds, on which were stuck the blood sucking leeches( called \\*corrupt politicians\\*, because of their characteristic features). His tests revealed, a very thickened cholestrol laden blood, clogging the poor chaps arteries, a condition, so common due to \\*lack of education and awareness\\*, and poor eating habits and \\*incompetent and improper\\* advice. His X- rays showed a pneumonic patch due to infection with a bug called "religio-politico-sectarian maulvi". The kidneys had stopped functioning because of lack of fluid, which he was deprived of, by the insensitive people surrounding him. His C.T Scan showed an invasive tumor called \\*Jaghirdari Nizam\\*[feudal system]. His blood cultures revealed the growth of foreign invaders ,\\*the Americano-Indiano-coccus\\*, which had made, even the \\*defense system\\* of the body, incompetent.

As usual, there was, no body,to attend to, the serious patient. At last sense prevailed, and on shouting for help, by the neibhouring patient, a ward boy, recently appointed on political basis, was alongside the patient. The untrained and ill-placed ward boy, shouted back at the neighbouring patient, telling him to shut up, as the things were \\*under control\\*. With the only thing he knew, that is to scold the patient, to stop making noise, the ward boy, left for his place of comfort. Things were really bad, the poor patient had started gasping.

It was only then, as Allah wills it, that a non-practising Doctor, happened to enter the room. It was not his duty nor was he allowed to, but on purely forced and humanitarian basis, he took it upon himself to attend to the "gasping patient". The Neighbouring patients shouted with joy and started calling him "Dr. Last Hope".

Dr. last Hope was very efficient and quick to act. He set up a drip and did the neccessary \\*emergency measures\\*. He restored his body fluids and started to remove the Blood sucking leeches. He gave proper antibiotics and after the initial resucitation, he took out a mobile Phone and called in the trained paramedics. He also placed a call to a few trained, but sincere senior doctors, asking them for help, Knowing that they will never refuse to help out.

The senior doctors arrived, the patient, inspite of hue and cry of the incompetent hospital staff, was shifted to the surgery and operated upon. The operation was a success.patient had been rescued.

The senior surgeons started to leave. Dr. last Hope, istead of gaining control of the hospital, also showed his intention to leave. Neighbouring patients told him that he was a \\*Messiah\\* and that, he should stay. BUT FOR ONCE,WE HAD A WISE MAN. After making sure that all the incompetent hospital staff was replaced, with proper trained medical staff and that the patient's rehabilitation, was sure to be followed (in the form of proportionate representation), Dr.Last Hope, took a swift exit, as if he had never been there, in the first place.

My friends tell me that, a dream is a dream, not to be taken seriously, But the \\*sweet scent\\* of the dream, is so strong in my mind that I want to keep on dreaming.
