So who’s watching what?

Topic started by amrita on Feb 25, 2006 7:42:08 pm

I saw Rang de Basanti and this time I’m with the mainstream. Loved this movie! The acting was what carried it through and its nice to see a true ensemble cast. And Aamir was worth a dekko after the clunker phase. Yay!

Also saw the entire first season of Lost on dvd and now am trawling for second season episodes. :blush wala ikaan:

Your turn.

Rang De Basanti couldn’t make up it’s mind about where it wanted to go. many good moments and great ideas are undone by the injection of too many songs, and a padded out running time (if that girl was a real filmmaker, she wouldn’t have as much time on her hands to run around or slack off with the cast & crew). an interesting, but ultimately muddled mess. the acting by the relatively unknown cast was excellent. i’d give the film a 6/10.

here’s what i’ve been watching recently (and how i rated it):

Finding Nemo 6/10
Zabriskie Point 9/10
Performance 8/10
The Hills Have Eyes (unrated version) 8/10
Taxi No. 9-2-11 7/10
The Matador (2005) 7/10
Running Scared (2006) 8/10
36 Chinatown 6/10
The Three Burials Of Melquides Estrada 7.5/10
The Descent 8/10

i watched ’Water’ yesterday. It’s a really good movie by an excellent director and writer Deepa Mehta. Well movie story is about widows and how people treat them in the time of the independence struggles against British colonial rule.

Well the principal character is a little girl played by Yogita Deshmukh. At the end of the story she has grown up and is Sonali Kulkarni in a bit role.
Other names you might know are Atul Kulkarni and Mohan Gokhale. I don’t know if you have seen Renuka Daftardar.
Anyway it’s good ole Amol Palekar

Should see it before I can comment on it. Have you by any chance seen a Marathi movie Kairee. It’s a really good film.

i really liked rang de basanti, the first time i saw it. the second time i saw it, i thought it was cheap manipulation. now i hear that the makers ripped off the woman who’s real story this is - the one played by waheeda rehman in the movie.

the blue umbrella should be good. i’m really excited about omkara, the adaptation of othello. vishal bhardwaj rocks (T)

No haven’t seen these sites. Must look them up. Another good movie I saw was ’’Iqbal’’ . I haven’t seen Rang de Basanti. Will do so in time. I’m also waiting for ’’The Blue Umbrella to be released. I like Ruskin Bond and I liked Makdee when I saw it.

Rang de Basanti was an exceptional movie!

Looked like it was written by a new talent.

Well ,discussing the lack of it would be a better statement.
It’s actually one where the wife has had an affair and is pregnant with the other blokes child and she wants to tell her husband. She plays various scenes in her head of what would be likely to happen ......
I deals with all sorts of emotions , anger, despair forgiveness bestiality .....
It’s good and it was completely shot on digital camera.

now its 2.30 in the morning and i’ve decided to watch dastaan also featuring DK but with Sharmila Tagore this time. Its kinda Monte Cristo ish. With some really uninspired songs.

:D
i didnt like what they did to waheeda rehman. nobody treats her like that, esp not AB in the ugliest mooch of them all [-X

i saw this dilip kumar, manoj kumar, waheeda rehman flick the other day - aadmi. its about DK who’s a rich man with a secret - he keeps a doll and a photo album tucked away which he obsesses over in the middle of the night while undergoing auditory hallucinations. MK is his good buddy and general saint who’s in love with a chick [WR] who’s never told him anything about herself, including her name. she runs about the forest and the hills singing songs about how lovely everything is. one day DK sees her singing and dancing and talks to her, finds out she’s the daughter of his trusted employee and that she has the same name as his doll. he’s thrilled and decides to marry her. MK hooks them up without knowing that its his girl. when he finds out he’s mighty blue but DK paid for his education so he’s like, whatever. but then there’s an accident and DK becomes a paraplegic and the villian convinces him that WR and MK are having an affair. then we find out that the doll is one that belonged to his childhood friend who died and when his other friends tried to play with it, he killed his friend. DK says his evil twin made him do it. Evil twin now wants him to kill MK for playing with the real life doll WR. DK tried but MK survives and tells him off so he tries to commit suicide. He’s saved by some guy who once tried to kill him but is now sorry. but everyone thinks he;s dead. DK thinks MK and WR will now get married but WR makes MK marry this other chick and then she runs off to kill herself coz she is not in love with DK. DK regained the use of his legs when he tried to kill himself so when he learns about WR;s plan he runs up to her and tells her he is alive. She then asks for his forgiveness because he is such an asshole. they marry.
the end.
