Notes on a few movies

Prestige:Well made movie with excellent acting.Messrs Bale,Jackman and Caine deliver component performances.Johansson delivers another boring and ordinary act.
(Why do all the good directors keep signing her and one sees so little of Miss Portman?) Somehow the end result with all the plot twists is not all that satisfying, doesnt seem worth it.Stopped short of being good.
One expects more from messrs Nolan and Bale.
Little Children: Is this better than the book?Dont know, but it sure unfolds like a book on a lazy winter afternoon, with the same lackadaisical self assurance.Gives ample time to each character to develop.Has a few points to make but it is done in a very unforced manner.Lovely performances by the supporting act. Winslett is excellent as always.
Stranger than fiction:I was apprehensive about this one but rave reviews and all that. This movie is okay but the conclusion and its justification are lame.It could have been a commentary on many interesting subjects like urban angst, circularity of time .etc. but the end spoilt it for me.
Babel:This was a lovely movie to watch, technically speaking.Cimematography was excellent, reminded me of Fernando Moriales’s(City of God,Constant Gardener) work. The japanese segment of the story was the most touching and vivid. But the connection of this to other segments is flimsy.Garcia Bernal’s performance in his 20 min screen time shone royally amongst his very competent peers.
Overall,a satisfying movie.

I saw Stranger than Fiction and I enjoyed it a lot. There were 2 scenes that I loved the most. One when he is playing the guitar in her house and the second when she types ’the phone rang’ and it does! I liked Dustin Hoffman’s office. Lots of books and sunlight coming in and then he goes swimming. Good life. The cookie girl was very attractive and exciting to watch.

Faizan, I liked this movie(Little Children) because of two superlative supporting performances; the 2 protagonists were just okay and since there is more than one story cutting across each other , so it is not as boring as it could have been.
Shobig, sorry man but she looks soo dumb :@
Minhaj, Do tell me what you thought about the ending.I forgot to mention Maggie Gyllenhaal. She is a gorgeous actress and delivered a fantastic performance.

Thanks for the reviews. I was looking forward to Stranger Than Fiction because its such a great idea and the preview looked great.

Btw...the previous film (In the bedroom) from the director of ’Little Children’ was equally lazy. It was a story (basically parental revenge) that could have been wrapped up in 30 minutes, but the layers of angst, feeling, emotion (seen and unseen) etc, made it tortourous to sit through. One of those films that only made core critics very happy. Almost unwatchable despite having strong performances.

Good selection of stuff you’ve seen Rahul. I might have to wait awhile for either of these. Keep em coming....
