Saima Shah

Saima writes because it must be said. That which must be said is truth, a truth that quite often is brushed under the carpet till the carpet swells up and everyone who walks over it trips on it. Global warming, bureaucracy, immigrant issues, unethical business practices, pollution, racial prejudice and plain misogyny are tripping up the human race.

Being a writer means carrying the constant risk of speaking one's truth. It is about Being, not Doing and about being stupid enough to have an opinion when it would be politically correct to say nothing and to let things slide as it were, under the carpet. Or worse, manipulate the truth to survive and prosper.

Being a writer is dirty, tough, thankless work and it often pleases nobody.

Saima has written in The Friday Times, Outlook, The Hindu, Mid-day, the Maharashtra Herald and Chowk. But, she has a special bond with Chowk, “Involvement with Chowk back in 1997 ensured that I didn’t remain a closet writer.

Saima Shah is a graduate of IBA, Karachi, Pakistan and Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada
