Nafees Ghaznavi

M.A. in English Literature from the U. of Karachi. While there edited the
students paper, Varsity World and was elected General Secretary of the
students’ union.

I wanted to be a journalist but became an advertising copywriter in J.
Walter Thompson (JWT). Five years later set up my own agency, MNJ
Advertising, in partnership with Majeed Ahmed (M) and Javed Jabbar (J). When
MNJ became a huge success, got bored with the superficial and shallow world
of advertising and landed in Toronto, Canada.
Guess what? Joined JWT, Toronto. Later I made amends for this relapse and
became Editor, Canadian Asian News. Since the past ten years I have been
living in Karachi. Here I have been Joint Director, Human Rights Commission
of Pakistan (HRCP) and had the wonderful opportunity of working with some of
the most eminent people of Pakistan; (late) Justice Dorab Patel, Asma
Jahangir, I. A. Rehman and many others.
When I was living in Canada I would be in Pakistan and India on long,
extended visits. Now its the other way around.
Since my student days I have been a politcal and human rights activist. I am
a member of Pakistan India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy and South
Asian Left Democratic Alliance (Toronto).

I have also been involved with theatre. I love art, literature, music,
movies. I am crazy about sports as well!
